Blackpink’s Jisoo to Star in Netflix K-Drama Series ‘Boyfriend on Demand’
Netflix has lined up its next high-concept, high-demand Korean drama. K-pop superstar Jisoo, of mega-group Blackpink, has signed on to star in Boyfriend on Demand, a romantic-drama series about an overworked young Korean woman who seeks escape in a virtual reality dating program “where she meets the boyfriends of her dreams.”
In the series, Jisoo will play exhausted webtoon producer Mi-rae, “who longs for a second chance at love” but has grown accustomed to a nonexistent dating life due to her hectic schedule. When Mi-rae receives a mysterious “Monthly Boyfriend” device by chance, she decides to give it a try, entering a virtual reality world where she encounters unrealistically perfect boyfriends, “awakening her dormant desires for romance.”

Popular singer-turned actor Seo In-guk (Doom at Your Service, Café Minamdang) will star opposite Jisoo as Park Kyeong-nam, Mi-rae’s colleague and rival webtoon producer.
“He’s capable and competent at work, but Mi-rae feels uneasy around him,” says Netflix’s story summary. “Despite his indifferent and cold demeanor, he’s a character with surprising secrets, sure to stir emotions in Mi-rae.”
Boyfriend on Demand is directed by Kim Jung-sik, known for the smash-hit web series Work Later, Drink Now and No Gain No Love.
Netflix says Boyfriend on Demand will “skillfully balance romance and comedy,” delivering “heart-fluttering moments and laughter.”
Jisoo has been one of Korea’s biggest pop stars since Blackpink’s debut in 2016, and her first solo release, Me, became the first single album by a female Korean artist to sell more than 1 million copies — within just two days of its release in 2023.
In recent years, Jisoo has been navigating a transition to acting. Her first starring role in a series came in the romantic period drama Snowdrop (2021), which was produced by JCTB and was Disney+’s first big K-drama hit. She can currently be seen in Coupang Play’s recently launched romantic fantasy zombie series Newtopia, about a recently broken-up couple attempting to reunite amid as a Zombie outbreak ravages South Korea. The show is available on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S.
Boyfriend on Demand adds to Netflix’s already sprawling 2025 Korean content slate, which includes 22 scripted series, eight reality shows and eight original films, with highlights like the third and final season of Squid Game (launching June 27) and a new season of Single’s Inferno.
