Blake Shelton Shares How Life Changed After Becoming a Stepdad to Gwen Stefani’s Kids: ‘It’s Not About You Anymore’

Blake Shelton said he couldn’t have imagined how his life would transform when he and Gwen Stefani first met while serving as coaches on The Voice, much less how things would change when he became her three sons’ stepfather.

Shelton, 47, and Stefani, 54, announced that they had begun dating shortly after the No Doubt singer split from her ex-husband, Bush lead singer Gavin Rossdale, in 2015. The “God’s Country” singer popped the question about five years into their relationship, and they were married in 2021.

Though Shelton has no biological children, his marriage to Stefani made him a stepfather to the three sons she shares with Rossdale: Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10. A few years after officially becoming a family, Shelton is looking back fondly on the time he has shared with Stefani so far.

While celebrating this week’s grand opening of Ole Red, his new Las Vegas bar and music venue, the country singer told Entertainment Tonight that his “perfect” scenario would be to have “a repeat of these past 10 years.” He said he “absolutely” loves not only teaching Stefani’s sons about country music, but about working on their family’s Oklahoma ranch.

Though it “blows my mind” that Kingston is about to turn 18—and that Zuma will also hit that mark in the next few years—Shelton said during the Wed., April 17 interview with ET that he and Stefani “have another almost 10 years” left before their youngest leaves the nest, “so it should be a lot of fun."

When he first became the kids’ stepdad, Shelton said he picked up on the need to take “a step back” and be sensitive to his new role in their lives. The “Nobody But You” singer said he believes it is “true” that, once a person is raising a child, “if you're doing it right, it's not about you anymore.”
