A funny thing happened with Bluetooth earbuds over the last few years: thanks to long battery lives, stellar noise cancellation, and a more customized fit, they started to give over-ear headphones a run for their money. Case in point: Bose’s QuietComfort Ultras, the brand’s newest noise-cancelling buds that the music lover on your shopping list will use non-stop.

After taking them for a test-run during commutes and workouts alike, we think the QuietComfort Ultras are Bose’s best-sounding earbuds to date (seriously, we’re loyal Bose QuietComfort earbud users.)

Bose upgraded its noise-cancelling earbuds with what it calls “Immersive Audio,” which essentially helps deliver a more realistic listening session like other spatial audio-equipped cans. And it worked: Songs we’d listened to on other earbuds in the past — Harry Styles’ “As It Was,” Billie’s “What Was I Made for?,” and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire” — sounded warmer and more lifelike with the QuietComfort Ultras — just short of feeling like the bands dropped by to play a private set in our living room.

Their stellar sound and sleek looks aside, the QuietComfort Ultra buds also happen to be really intuitive to use. Bose makes it easy to toggle between three different sound settings, including Immersion, Quiet, and Aware modes with the tap of your left earbud. You can easily adjust the volume or skip songs by sliding your finger on the bud, or with another tap. Listeners can get up to four hours of use in the Immersion mode, or six hours of runtime between charges with the other modes.

Another feature that makes the Bose QuietComfort Ultras stand out from the Bluetooth earbuds pack is their built-in “CustomTune” tech. Put another way, the earbuds’ noise-cancellation changes based on the shape of your ear, so you’re getting a personalized sound experience with every track. Your giftee will also get nine different eartips with the earbuds so they can find the fit that’s right for them out of the box.

With the Bose QuietComfort Ultra earbuds, you’re getting similar spatial audio features as other buds at this price point, like the Apple AirPods Pro (2nd Gen), but with more impressive noise cancellation. The Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones, meantime, are also on sale on Amazon, starting at $379.

The bottom line: The Bose QuietComfort Ultra earbuds simply take your playlists to the next level — a must-have for any music fan.
