The Boys Finale Adds Content Warning for ‘Coincidental and Unintentional’ Similarities to Trump Assassination Attempt

In light of the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, The Boys’ Season 4 finale — which features a presidential assassination storyline — opened with a content advisory when the episode debuted on Thursday.

“This episode contains scenes of fictional political violence,” reads the note at the start of the episode. “Any similarities to recent events are completely coincidental and unintentional. Prime Video, Amazon MGM Studios, Sony Pictures Television and the producers of The Boys oppose, in the strongest terms, real-world violence of any kind.”

A similar message was posted on Instagram by The Boys and Prime Video, noting that The Boys “is a fictitious series that was filmed in 2023, and any scene or plotline similarities to these real-world events are coincidental and unintentional.”

The episode’s title, which was originally “Assassination Run,” has also been changed to simply “Season Four Finale.”

Season 4 of the Prime Video drama features a long arc about the planned assassination of President-Elect of the United States Robert Singer, which would allow Homelander and his allies to then instill Vice President-Elect Victoria Neuman, who is a super-abled being, into the White House’s top position.

In this week’s finale, “it’s January 6th as Congress certifies the election results to officially make Bob Singer President and Victoria Neuman his VP,” reads the official episode description. “Meanwhile, The Boys try to protect Singer from assassination, not realizing that the assassin is closer than they think.”

On July 13, shots were fired at a Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pa. in an attempted assassination. A bullet grazed the former president’s right ear, while an attendee was killed and two other attendees were critically injured. According to the Associated Press, the suspected shooter — identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pa. — “was engaged by members of the U.S. Secret Service counterassault team and killed.”
