The Boys Prequel, Starring Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash, Ordered to Series

The Boys is going back to the beginning: The prequel series Vought Rising, starring Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash, was announced at the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel on Friday.

Ackles, who plays the original supe Soldier Boy on The Boys, helped reveal the news with a surprise appearance on stage in Hall H, while Cash (aka Stormfront) appeared via video.

“We are excited to bring you the next deranged series from the world of The Boys,” executive producer Eric Kripke and Vought Rising showrunner/EP Paul Grellong said in a statement. “It’s a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought. We cannot wait to blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V.”

Ackles made his debut as Soldier Boy during The Boys Season 3 and recently reprised the role in the show’s Season 4 finale mid-credits scene, during which Homelander discovered his biological father is still alive (but on ice, so to speak). He is slated to return as a series regular for the fifth and final season, it was revealed at the panel.

Cash, meanwhile, was introduced in Season 2, which revealed her Nazi ties before the character was ultimately killed. Cash and Ackles will both serve as producers on the new series.

Vought Rising is the third offshoot of the Boys franchise, following the animated anthology The Boys Presents: Diabolical and the supes college-set Gen V, which is slated to return for a second season. A Spanish-language spinoff set in Mexico City is also in development.
