'The Boys' Season 5 Will Be Its Last—Everything We Know So Far

The Boys will be back one last time: The Boys Season 5 will be the Amazon Studios' superhero spoof's final installment.

Showrunner Eric Kripke tweeted ahead of the Season 4 premiere, “#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season! Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun!”

Kripke's announcement was accompanied by a photo of a heavily redacted script from Season 4, Episode 8 of the series called "Assassination Run."

Will there be a Season 5 of The Boys?

Yep! It was renewed for a fifth season before the cast and crew began doing press for Season 4.

When does The Boys Season 5 come out?

If The Boys Season 5 follows the pattern set by previous seasons, we'll likely see it sometime in summer 2025.

How many episodes is The Boys Season 5?

Most seasons of The Boys are eight episodes, so Season 5 will likely follow (spandex) suit.

Who is in The Boys Season 5 cast?

A lot of the cast decisions for The Boys Season 5 will depend on what happens in Season 4—most importantly, who survives the penultimate season, because this show loves a brutal, gory death scene. (Seriously, it makes a lot of sense that Homelander is now a playable character in Mortal Kombat 1.) That said, these are the most likely players so far:

Antony Starr as Homelander

You love to hate him, right? Antony Starr will likely reprise his role of Big Bad Homelander, who showrunner Kripke recently revealed was a proxy for Donald Trump. Most astute viewers had figured this out long ago, but he fully ripped off the bandaid in a June 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

"We just wanted to do a very realistic version of a superhero show, one where superheroes are celebrities behaving badly," he said, noting it was early 2016 at the time. "Trump was the, 'He’s not really getting the nomination, is he?' guy. When he got elected, we had a metaphor that said more about the current world. Suddenly, we were telling a story about the intersection of celebrity and authoritarianism and how social media and entertainment are used to sell fascism. We’re right in the eye of the storm. And once we realized that, I just felt an obligation to run in that direction as far as we could."

He added, "Anyone who wants to call the show 'woke' or whatever, that’s OK. Go watch something else. But I’m certainly not going to pull any punches or apologize for what we’re doing. Some people who watch it think Homelander is the hero. What do you say to that? The show’s many things. Subtle isn’t one of them. So if that’s the message you’re getting from it, I just throw up my hands."

Karl Urban as Billy Butcher

Karl Urban will likely be back as supe-hunter Billy Butcher.

Season 3 showed that the character was possibly dying from taking Compound V, and it remains to be seen what will come of that in Season 4. He previously told Collider, "For Butcher, there are a couple of aspects at play. There’s his responsibility to Ryan and finding himself in the role of a parent, which is a role that he is so ill-equipped for. He’s juggling that newfound responsibility with this pathological obsession to get revenge on Homelander."

"Having made the choice to cross that line and deal with the ramifications of that, not only personally, physically and mentally for Butcher, and also the ramifications for every other character that he interacts with, that one decision breaks alliances and creates new alliances, and it leads to really exciting and unexpected confrontations," he continued.

Incidentally, though Homelander is playable in MK1, it's Urban who will be in the next Mortal Kombat film, playing movie star-turned-fighter Johnny Cage.

Cameron Crovetti as Ryan

Upped to a series regular in Season 4, Cameron Crovetti will likely return for Season 5 as Ryan, son of Homelander and stepson to Billy Butcher—who's coming into his own natural superpowers.

Erin Moriarty as Annie January/Starlight

Erin Moriarty will likely be back as Annie January/Starlight, but we wouldn't necessarily blame her if she eschewed the spotlight forever: In January 2024, Moriarty went viral after she was criticized heavily for posting a selfie in which she looked, to many, different than she had before, with the chatter growing so loud that even disgraced former TV news anchor Megyn Kelly commented about it.

In a since-deleted statement (via Entertainment Weekly), Moriarty said she was bullied, harassed and "dehumanized" for her appearance and condemned Kelly for her remarks.

That said, we're so happy to see Starlight return, and to Hell with the haters. She's flippin' gorgeous.

Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell

Jack Quaid will likely return as Hughie Campbell. The adorable and self-aware nepo baby of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid also voices Clark Kent and Superman in the animated series My Adventures With Superman, which he's said can't be more different from The Boys.

"It's kind of the flip side to The Boys," he told Entertainment Weekly. "It's so honest and so genuine, not snarky in the slightest."

Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk

Laz Alonso will hopefully be back as Mother's Milk for the final season—and he said that if you look closely enough, you'll see his influence on the show via his character's shirts.

"I work with our onset costume coordinator, the head of the costume department, and every episode, we pick a shirt that kind of thematically encompasses what MM is going through and where we are in the story," he told Nerdist. "We tried to be as methodical as possible with picking out shirts that matched [the] level of intensity."

Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko Miyashiro/The Female

If Karen Fukuhara isn't back as Kimiko/The Female, we're all rioting. Kripke said that in previous seasons he felt her character was almost forgotten storywise, but Fukuhara was diplomatic AF about it.

"I mean she is this silent killer, she's pretty badass in the comics but nobody really knows why she does what she does and there's no reasoning behind why she's so violent," she told Digital Spy way back in 2020. "So I really love that he [Eric Kripke] delved into her insane past ... and her family members coming in and then her growing relationship with Frenchie—she's definitely not forgotten. And I'm really appreciative that Eric and the writing team put so much thought into building Kimiko this season. I'm really grateful."

We need more of her still, with or without Frenchie!

Tomer Capone as Frenchie

If Kimiko returns, we'd love if Frenchie (Tomer Capone) came back too, because we want her to be happy. He told Digital Spy he loves playing the character because of the freedom afforded to him in the role.

"In terms of myself, sometimes I'll raise a brow, and I'll have some thoughts. But not with The Boys, I've got to be honest," he said. "With Frenchie, it's one of the most freeing experiences I've ever had portraying a character. And I'll be more specific ... When Little Nina catches Frenchie—originally, Frenchie was supposed to be with, I think, dirty undies or something like that. And I was like, 'No, he should be naked.'

Jessie T. Usher as A-Train

Jessie T. Usher will likely reprise his role as the speedy A-Train in The Boys Season 5. He previously told Men's Health of the series, "They put us in really bizarre situations, but they make sure everybody's comfortable, and they're pretty reassuring about not doing anything that's going to come across in a bad way. They just have an incredible vision for pushing the boundary."

Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy

A Captain America-style proxy hero, Jensen Ackles worked with Kripke for years on Supernatural, so it's likely he'll at least make an appearance in the final bow of The Boys—especially when his character appears in a lot of flashback scenes for Vought International as well as present-day events. He cameoed in Gen V, so time will only tell!

Chace Crawford as The Deep

Gossip Girl alum Chace Crawford will likely return as Aquaman proxy The Deep. We aren't sure whether or not to look forward to his character's Scientology-like experiences or creepy marine life fetish, but we do look forward to his arc overall.

Susan Heyward as Sister Sage

After her star turn as the world's smartest human, we'd love to see Susan Heyward return as Sister Sage. She literally knows exactly how to get under Homelander's skin, and you love to see it.

Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir

Nathan Mitchell rarely shows his face and almost never, ever speaks as Black Noir, but we're still looking forward to seeing him anyway.

Valorie Curry as Firecracker

Valorie Curry may return as Firecracker, the far-right spitfire that largely acted as a nouveau Stormfront.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Joe Kessler

Jeffrey Dean Morgan will likely return as Joe Kessler. He previously told Parade, "I have a relationship with Eric [Kripke] that goes back 100 years from Supernatural. I watched the first couple of episodes of The Boys from Season 1 and kind of flipped out because I'd never seen anything like it. That’s saying a lot, because in this day and age, so many shows are just a repeat of something else. So I went on about it on social media, and Eric saw it. I knew even if I just did one episode, I would be happy."

He added, "My schedule was always screwed up because I was shooting [The Walking Dead: Dead City] in New York City. So we worked it out that they waited until after I wrapped. They held up everything and waited four months for me to finish my job. Then I went to Toronto for a couple months and filmed all my scenes and finished out The Boys. It was f--king great. I thought I’d be in one episode and I think I’m in six or seven."

Giancarlo Esposito as Stan Edgar

Listen, if anyone involved knows what they're doing, Giancarlo Esposito will be back as Stan Edgar, because he's Giancarlo Esposito. Put the man in everything. He's perfect.

Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman

Claudia Doumit may be back as politician and secret-supe Victoria Neuman in Season 5 depending on how her Season 4 arc goes. We'll see!

Simon Pegg as Hugh Campbell

Simon Pegg may return as Hughie's father, Hugh Campbell, Sr., in the final season of The Boys.

Rosemarie DeWitt as Daphne Campbell

Rosemarie DeWitt may reprise her role as Hughie's mother, Daphne Campbell, who walked out on the family when he was a child.

Rob Benedict as Splinter

Depending on his fate in Season 4, Rob Benedict may return in the final season as Splinter, a conspiracy theorist.
