Bradley Cooper Reveals Dire Warning Eddie Vedder Gave Him About Re-Making ‘A Star is Born’: ‘Bro, Don’t Do That’
Bradley Cooper went totally method to find his A Star is Born character Jackson Maine. Not only did he learn how to play guitar and sing, but he flew to Seattle to hang with Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder for a week to learn everything he could being a believable angsty singer. “I went up to Seattle and spent four or five days with him and I asked him 9,000 questions,” Cooper told Yahoo! Entertainment. “And he gave me minor, little things that only musicians know about what to do, just aesthetically and the inner workings.”
The film, which stars Lady Gaga, has gotten near universal raves to date, with a number of reviews praising Cooper’s gritty homage to Kris Kristofferson’s version of the male lead in the 1976 remake of the 1937 original, John Norman Howard. But even though Vedder was reportedly more than happy to help Cooper land the performance, the actor said the PJ singer’s initial reaction was not great. “He thought it was crazy I was going to do this movie,” Cooper said. “He was like, ‘What? Bro, don’t do that.'”

Vedder apparently relented, though, and helped Cooper — who also directed the film — work on the songs he’d written for Maine to sing. A Star is Born will open in theaters on Oct. 5.
