Brady Bunch Cast Relationships: Who Got Together Behind-the-Scenes

Let's face it: The Brady Bunch was a squeaky-clean TV series that introduced the world to the Brady family. Maybe that's what made that moment in the 1996 film A Very Brady Sequel, in which Greg and Marcia Brady suddenly realize that they're not blood-related, making it okay if they ... sort of ... you know ... hooked up, even funnier. Of course — and with all due respect to producer Sherwood Schwartz — it wasn't the first time that someone had wondered if there was any hanky-panky going on behind the scenes with the actors on the classic sitcom given so many of them were growing adolescents armed with raging hormones.

The Brady Bunch, of course, is something of a national institution, originally airing from 1970 to 1975 and going on from there as it spun off into the animated The Brady Kids (1972 to 1974), The Brady Bunch Hour (1977), the 1981 TV movie The Brady Girls Get Married (those girls being Marcia and Jan), 7 episodes of the same year's The Brady Brides, the 1988 TV movie A Very Brady Christmas, the 1990 one-hour drama The Bradys, the 2019 HGTV reality series A Very Brady Renovation and then there were the parody movies, 1995's The Brady Bunch Movie, the aforementioned sequel and the 1996 TV movie The Brady Bunch in the White House.

 That's a whole lotta Bradys.

But through it all, each of the actors has had ups and downs in their lives, especially in terms of relationships and what follows is a look at the Brady Bunch couples, relationships between a few cast members, but mostly partners chosen before or after the original series' run.

So the big question fans of The Brady Bunch have spent years wondering about is whether or not anything went on between Barry Williams (Greg Brady) and Maureen McCormick (Marcia Brady) romantically. It's something she addressed in her 2008 memoir, Here's the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My Voice.

According to Maureen, when the Brady Kids were on a concert tour, there was a moment between the two of them where they sang James Taylor and Carole King's "You've Got a Friend" in which they moved closer and closer to each other on stage and basically sang to each other. She wrote, "It was choreographed to be a romantic moment, and there was so much sexual tension between us, we didn't have to pretend."

Then, when the show went to Hawaii to shoot the show's fourth season premiere, that's where they kissed for the first time. "As soon as I stepped off the plane," Maureen writes, "I started to think about him more intensely in the way I had fantasized for a long time. We had spent the past three and a half years staving off the desire of a mutual attraction despite the intimacy of working closely with each other every day."

Although things continued when they got back to California, it never became too serious — Maureen wasn't ready to commit and Barry was still dating other girls. But at least the fans had their answer.

Again, not a lot of details, but from what can be discerned, there was some dating going on between Christopher Knight (Peter Brady) and Eve Plumb (Jan Brady) from 1973 to 1974 while The Brady Bunch was still in production, but nothing of much consequence.

This is pretty innocent stuff, but Susan Olsen (Cindy Brady) did admit on a radio interview that she and Mike Lookinland (Bobby Brady) "used to make out in the [Brady Bunch] doghouse when we were nine."

When he attended Northwestern University, Robert Reed (Mike Brady) met fellow student Marilyn Rosenberger and married her in July 1954. They had a daughter, Karen Rietz, but ended up getting divorced in 1959. Although he himself never acknowledged it publicly, Reed was revealed to have been a closeted gay man, though his Brady Bunch co-stars were aware of it.

For a time, Barry dated Elizabeth Kennedy, and together in April 2012 they had a daughter, Samantha Rose Williams.

Maureen McCormick, whose Marcia dated Desi Arnaz Jr. and Davy Jones on the show, has been married to Michael Cummings since 1983 and the couple, which has 1 child, has been through a hell of a lot, much of it caused by periods of Maureen's addiction to drugs. But the truth is, they held tight and are still together over 40 years later.

Of The Brady Bunch cast, Christopher Knight holds the record for the most marriages, the first having been to Julie Schulman from 1989 to 1992. This was followed by Toni Erickson, to whom he was wed from 1995 to 2000.

More publicly, he proposed to reality TV personality and model Adrianne Curry in the first season finale of VH1's My Fair Brady, and audiences pretty much got to watch the rise and fall of their relationship. They were together from 2006 to 2012.

Christopher Knight and Cara Kokenes: Brady Bunch Cast Relationships

As things turned out, Eve Plumb was the first member of The Brady Bunch cast to get married ... and the first one to get divorced. The guy at the center of that was Rick Mansfield, and their marriage lasted from 1979 to 1981.

After meeting business consultant Ken Pace, he brought a very strict rule into their relationship: they had to date for a year before they even thought about the idea of marriage. Apparently it was a good rule, because they wed in 1995 and have been together ever since.

Mike Lookinland has only been married once, and that's to Kelly Wermuth, who has been described as an "occasional actress," the two of them walking down the aisle on May 1, 1987 and remaining together ever since (that's 37-years for anyone keeping track of such things). They're parents of sons Scott Michael (born July 6, 1990) and Joseph Kelly (born August 6, 1993).

While it's difficult to get much on the personal life of actress Susan Olsen, it's known that she's been married a total of three times. In 1988 she married kickboxer and musician Steve Ventimiglia, the two of them divorcing in 1992. Three years later she married medical equipment salesman Mitch Maxwell, who she was with until 2004. Their son, Michael (named after Mike Lookinland), was born in 1997. Susan is currently married to stand up comedian Chris Fonesca, who she wed in 2009.

It should be noted that Ann B. Davis, who played housekeeper Alice Nelson, never married.
