Season 3 found Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) in a friends-to-lovers arc with neighbor Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), who’d harbored a crush on him for years. When rival Cressida Cowper (Jessica Madsen) tried to blackmail the newlyweds over Penelope’s Lady Whistledown alias, the third-born Featherington outed herself at her family’s ball; she and Colin went on to have a son.
Season 2, meanwhile, focused on Anthony’s (Jonathan Bailey) fiery romance with Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), while Season 1 detailed eldest daughter Daphne’s (Phoebe Dynevor) tumultuous love affair with Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page), the Duke of Hastings and one of the town’s most eligible bachelors.
Showrunner Jess Brownell executive-produces alongside series creator Chris Van Dusen, Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers and director Tom Verica. Keep scrolling for Everything We Know About Bridgerton Season 4 so far.
What is the release date for Season 4?
You’re in for a bit of a wait for the next Bridgerton love story. New episodes won’t arrive until 2026, according to showrunner Jess Brownell.
“We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited and then they have to be dubbed into every language,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “And the writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace. We’re trying to speed up, but somewhere in that range.”
Who will be the focus of Bridgerton Season 4?
Netflix on July 23 confirmed what many fans had been speculating — that Season 4 will tell the love story of Benedict Bridgerton.
“Benedict Bridgerton has been unmasked as next season’s newest suitor,” the streamer posted on its social media accounts. “Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.”
While certainly exciting, this news was hardly a shock to fans of the Bridgerton books.
Before leaving for Scotland in Season 3, Eloise had asked her second-eldest brother if he believed their mother Violet would allow her to miss her masquerade ball. Benedict noted his RSVP, telling his sister, “I will be there, hiding out about behind a mask, avoiding eligible ladies like the plague.”
In An Offer from a Gentleman, the third book in Julia Quinn’s bestselling Bridgerton series, Benedict meets his would-be wife Sophie Beckett at his mother’s masquerade ball.
Who is playing Benedict’s love interest?
Halo’s Yerin Ha has been tapped to portray Sophie Beckett in Season 4.
In An Offer from a Gentleman, Sophie is the orphaned, illegitimate daughter of the Earl of Penwood forced to work for her intolerable stepmother. She captures Benedict’s heart after first meeting him at his mother’s masquerade ball.
Additional credits for Ha include the Prime Video series Troppo, ABC’s Reef Break and the upcoming HBO series Dune: Prophecy.
Who is returning next season?
Expect to see most of the Bridgerton family return, including young Gregory and Hyacinth, who will be more prominently featured as their eldest siblings are married off.
And while Season 3 gave Colin and Penelope their happily ever after — marriage and son — showrunner Jess Brownell previously told TVLine that the couple will remain in that happy space in Season 4 “the same way we have for Kate and Anthony.”
Plus, there is “more story to tell with Whistledown,” Brownell added. “Penelope has been the narrator of the show since Season 1 and so, she has a special role to play in the show that will allow for a little bit more story after her season.”
As for Anthony and Kate, the EP would “love to see both of them again,” she noted. The pair heading to India “allows us to explain why they might not be around a ton if [portrayers Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley] are really busy, but also leaves the door open for them to appear if schedules align.”
