Bruce Springsteen Day proclaimed in Minnesota. Boss called emblem of hope and unity

Some say every day in New Jersey is Bruce Springsteen day.

In Minnesota, it was Sunday, March 5.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz made that proclamation the day of the Springsteen and E Street Band concert at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Sunday night.

“Bruce Springsteen is set to light up Saint Paul, Minnesota,” the statement reads. “Springsteen's lyrics resonate with people across all walks of life, and he has become an emblem of hope, compassion and unity, and Springsteen's songs celebrate the beauty and complexity of life, with its triumphs and tragedies and its joys and sorrows.”

The Boss, 73, has made a connection to the people of Minnesota, according to the proclamation, which called the Freehold native a “living legend.”

“Springsteen's music is a source of inspiration for many people in Minnesota, reminding us of the values we hold dear, including kindness, compassion and fairness.”

Walz made the announcement just after noon on Sunday. A commentator on Twitter asked “What about the E Street Band?” Another said: “Awesome! So everyone going to the show gets Monday off, right?”

A drive to make Sept. 23, the Boss' birthday, “Bruce Springsteen Day” each year in New Jersey stalled out in 2021. There were resolutions in both the state Senate and Assembly, but they never made it to Gov. Phil Murphy's desk. Springsteen was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in 2016.

There is an E Street Band member who does have a day in New Jersey. Each year, Jan. 11 is Clarence Clemons Day, named for the late saxophonist. The resolution proclaiming the day was sponsored by former Sen. Jennifer Beck, R-Monmouth, and signed by former Gov. Chris Christie, a noted Springsteen fan, in 2014.

If Murphy wants to proclaim a day for Springsteen and/or the E Street Band, there are a few prime chances coming. Upcoming shows for the current tour include April 14 at the Prudential Center in Newark, and Aug. 30, Sept. 1 and 3 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.

Gov. Phil Murphy proclaimed April 14, 2018, “Bon Jovi Day” in the state to celebrate the band's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
