Bruce Wayne finally becomes Batman on 'Gotham'
“Rock climbing. Yes, we were rock climbing. Alfred’s been teaching me,” says a young Bruce Wayne after being released by the Gotham City Police Department.
Sure, rock climbing — if that’s what you call falling through a skylight and straight into an active crime scene. This week on Gotham, a young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) was still wrestling with his urge to seek justice by attempting to prevent crime around the city and, while no one can stop the young Bruce from fulfilling his ultimate destiny of becoming Gotham’s caped crusader, his caretaker — Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) — couldn’t help but worry about him. In fact, if it wasn’t for Alfred secretly following Bruce when he went back out to hunt down the robbers, he might have been shot and killed.
However, the best part of the episode happened back at the Wayne Manor, when former Wayne Enterprises executive Mr. Fox (Chris Chalk), visited with a little surprise for Bruce. “Well, I just couldn’t stop thinking about our last chat. Wayne Enterprises were developing a durable material for military uniforms when I worked there,” said Fox as he opened a briefcase. “It is a thin Kevlar weave with reinforced forearm protection. The gloves have a faceted grip design to help you cling to any surface. The whole uniform is extremely lightweight, and actually bulletproof to impacts from 10 feet or more. You know, for rock climbing.” The show closed with a masked Bruce standing on a rooftop watching over Gotham, representing the beginning of what we’ve all been waiting for … Batman.
