Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak 'bow out humbly' of submitting Silk Sonic album for Grammy consideration
Silk Sonic’s “Leave the Door Open” scored four Grammy Awards earlier this year. But the duo of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak is closing that door on any future possible Grammy wins for the album that spawned the breakthrough soul hit.
"We truly put our all on this record, but Silk Sonic would like to gracefully, humbly and most importantly, sexually, bow out of submitting our album this year," Mars told Rolling Stone on Thursday. "We hope we can celebrate with everyone on a great year of music and partake in the party. Thank you for letting Silk Sonic thrive."
The group’s "An Evening with Silk Sonic," released in November, missed the September eligibility period for the 2022 Grammy Awards. But their debut single, a throwback slice of velvety R&B, arrived in March 2021, which allowed its submission for the 2022 ceremony.

"Leave the Door Open" won in its four nominated categories – the prestigious record and song of the year, as well as best R&B song and best R&B performance.
"We're really trying our hardest to remain humble at this point," a grinning .Paak said while accepting the record of the year trophy with Mars. "But in the industry, we call that a clean sweep."
The duo also engaged in an electrifying performance at the ceremony, blazing through the album track "777" in white jumpsuits that underscored Silk Sonic’s ‘70s vibe.
Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason jr. responded to Silk Sonic’s decision by thanking them for being a "fun highlight at our last couple of shows" (they performed "Leave the Door Open" in 2021).
"We appreciate their decision not to submit this year but look forward to celebrating an amazing year in music together," Mason said in a statement obtained by USA TODAY Thursday.

While "Leave the Door Open" introduced Silk Sonic to the masses, the album also boasted the worldwide hits "Skate" and "Smokin’ Out the Window."
Mars and .Paak – who share vocals and handle guitar and drums, respectively, in the band – have parlayed their individual success into a windfall with Silk Sonic. In addition to the group’s accomplishments on radio, they introduced a residency at the Dolby Live theater at Park MGM in Las Vegas in February with a sold-out run of 13 shows. Additional rounds of dates were added in May and August due to demand.
