‘The Brutalist’ trailer breathes full life to Brady Corbert’s epic awards contender
With the release of “The Brutalist” just one week away, A24 debuted a lengthy new trailer for the awards contender on the back of its strong showing at the Golden Globe Awards.
The film directed and co-written by Brady Corbert and starring Adrien Brody has widely been considered one of the year’s top competitors in the Oscars race since its debut at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year. So far, any early bets on the film have paid off handsomely: “The Brutalist” won Best Film at the New York Film Critics Circle last week and placed as the runner-up choice with the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. Brody, meanwhile, was the New York Film Critics Circle pick for Best Actor. Additional honors for “The Brutalist” included Best Production Design from the Los Angeles critics and then a runner-up citation for Best Cinematography.

“The Brutalist” also landed seven nominations at the Golden Globes, the most for any drama film. In addition to Best Drama and Best Drama Actor for Brody, the film received nominations for Best Supporting Actor for Guy Pearce, Best Supporting Actress for Felicity Jones, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Score.
Directed and co-written by Corbet (who wrote the script with Mona Fastvold), the plot synopsis for “The Brutalist” is as follows: “Escaping post-war Europe, visionary architect László Toth arrives in America to rebuild his life, his work, and his marriage to his wife Erzsébet after being forced apart during wartime by shifting borders and regimes. On his own in a strange new country, László settles in Pennsylvania, where the wealthy and prominent industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren recognizes his talent for building. But power and legacy come at a heavy cost…”
Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Emma Laird, Isaach De Bankolé, and Alessandro Nivola all co-star.
“The Brutalist” opens in select theaters on Dec. 20 and will play in 70mm VistaVision at locations that allow the format.
