Bunk’d Series Finale Leaves One Major Mystery Unsolved — Grade the Ending!

Disney Channel wished happy trails to Bunk’d on Friday with a wedding-themed series finale. But this was much more than merely the last episode of a sitcom, it also marked the end of an era for the network.

Bunk’d premiered in 2015 as a spinoff of Disney Channel’s Debby Ryan-fronted sitcom Jessie, with several of the nanny’s young charges relocating to camp for a new series of summer shenanigans. Jessie and Bunk’d aired a combined total of 260 episodes across 11 seasons, resulting in one of the network’s longest-running franchises.

The finale centered around Parker and Victoria’s nuptials, but camp director Lou’s celebratory mood was quickly soured by the news that all of her best employees are leaving for greener pastures. Parker is relocating to Camp Ski-kiwaka, which he intends to keep open year-round; Noah is enrolling in a summer theater program at Juilliard; and Destiny will be taking part in Nature Without Borders, leaving the Dusty Diner under the watchful eye of… a goat.

For Lou, the final straw was finding out that her boyfriend Ryder — the apparent savior of frozen foods — was also moving to Alaska. But during a gondola ride up to the mountains, where Lou intended to vent her frustrations into the void, she suddenly found herself stuck. And who should come to her rescue, but good ol’ Ryder, who had a change of heart and decided to stay after all. A classic finale fake-out.

In the end, all was well that ended well. Lou and the other trapped characters made it to the wedding in time to watch Parker and Victoria swap vows, as well as participate in a choreographed flash mob (remember those?!) as a gift to the happy couple.

“I was really worried about having to say goodbye to you guys,” Lou told everyone at the reception. “But look at us, we’re too much a part of each other’s lives to ever have it be a real goodbye. We’re a family, and as long as I’m around, this family will always have a campfire to come back to.”

And what would a wedding — not to mention a series finale — be without the return of a few familiar faces? Longtime Bunk’d viewers got to catch up with permanent camper Mateo, who is busy at MIT; recently licensed driver Gwen, who’s proud of having “uncontrollable road rage”; and Ava, who’s killing it as “Camp Overlord” back in Maine. Finn came too, but we’re happy to report that seemingly nothing has changed in his life.

In fact, the only thing missing from this series finale was the reveal of Noah’s real name. The episode teased us with a quick moment of Mateo sharing it with some of the newer characters, but aside from a big reaction (“That’s Noah’s real name?!”), we didn’t get anything concrete. Tragic.

Let’s talk, Bunk’d fans: Was this finale a fitting end for the show after seven seasons? Grade the episode in our poll below, then drop a comment with your full review.
