Cameron Boyce's 'sudden unexpected' death was caused by epilepsy, coroner rules

The Los Angeles Coroner's office has determined that epilepsy caused the "sudden unexpected death" of Disney star Cameron Boyce.

Boyce, just 20, was found unresponsive in his North Hollywood home and pronounced dead at 2:35 p.m. on July 6. He was best known for starring in the Disney Channel franchises "Jessie" and "Descendants" and had appeared in films including "Grown Ups," "Grown Ups 2" and "Eagle Eye."

At the time, Boyce's family told ABC News – which is part of the Disney/ABC Television Group owned by the Walt Disney Co. – that the actor succumbed to a seizure.

"He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure, which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated," the family said.

On July 8, the Los Angeles Coroner conducted an autopsy, but the cause and manner of death was deferred due to the need for additional testing.

The manner of death is now conclusively "certified as natural" the coroner's statement Tuesday states.

Over the weekend, Boyce's family posted poignant photo memories.

"My sunshine," wrote Libby Boyce next to a picture of her smiling son.
