Cameron Crowe Signs With CAA
EXCLUSIVE: Cameron Crowe has signed with CAA. The Oscar, BAFTA and Grammy winner’s career features some of the most iconic movie titles of the past five decades, dating back to his debut feature film screenwriting effort Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Starring Sean Penn, it was based on a book Crowe wrote after spending a year undercover as a student at Clairemont High School in San Diego.
Crowe would go on to direct such classics as Say Anything, Singles and Jerry Maguire. The latter, starring Tom Cruise and Renée Zellweger, was nominated for five Academy Awards including Original Screenplay and Best Picture. The film that would ultimately land him his first Oscar was the 1996 autobiographical pic Almost Famous, starring Kate Hudson and Billy Crudup and based on Crowe’s experiences as a teen writer for Rolling Stone (he started his career in 1973 as a contributing editor and writer at the magazine, covering rock tours). The film was nominated for four Oscars and won for Original Screenplay; it also won Golden Globes for Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical and Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Hudson. Crowe also won a Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.
The recent Broadway production of Almost Famous: The Musical, penned by Crowe with music and lyrics by Crowe and Tom Kitt, earned a 2023 Tony nomination for Original Score.
Crowe’s other works include the psychological thriller Vanilla Sky, Elizabethtown, We Bought a Zoo and Aloha. He also directed the music documentaries Pearl Jam Twenty and The Union. On the documentary-producing side his credits include David Crosby: Remember My Name, and he created the Showtime series Roadies alongside J.J. Abrams.
He is currently in development on his next feature film, based on the life and music of Joni Mitchell.
Crowe continues to be represented by The Azoff Company and Kevin Marks and Daniel Passman at Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman.
