Now you can own the official 'Office Space' version of the red Swingline stapler (exclusive)
Office Space fans surely know that red Swingline staplers — like the one lead character Milton (Stephen Root) held so dear (when it wasn’t stolen from him) in the 1999 cult classic — exist in the real world.
But to celebrate the Mike Judge-directed film’s 20th anniversary on Feb. 19, Swingline is releasing an official Office Space-branded red stapler for the very first time.
It’s an item fans of the film are going to want to keep a close watch on or risk having it swiped. (True story: As such a fan, I once had a red Swingline stapler on my desk at work, and one day it disappeared. No one ever took credit, which left me feeling as crazy as Milton. This is surely the greatest prank ever pulled on me.)
In addition to the release of this sweet (and practical) piece of movie memorabilia, Swingline and Fox Consumer Products are partnering for a giveaway in which one very lucky person (picture Milton at the end of the movie) wins a lifetime of staples. (Specifically, the winner gets a million staples, but if you need more than that in your lifetime, you may have a stapling problem.) Either way, visit facebook.com/swingline for contest details.
As Milton himself would put it, “And I said, ‘I don’t care if they lay me off, either,’ because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I’m, I’m quitting, I’m going to quit. And, and I told Don, too, because they’ve moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were merry, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn’t bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it’s not OK because if they take my stapler then I’ll set the building on fire…”
Office Space turns 20 on Feb. 19. Buy the DVD or Blu-ray or stream it on iTunes. The $17.99 stapler will be available for sale on Amazon this spring.
