Candace Cameron Bure Just Revealed the Mystery Franchise She’s Replacing Aurora Teagarden With
Candace Cameron Bure is back to solving mysteries! The actress, who left Hallmark in 2022, is officially moving on from her role as Aurora Teagarden and starring in a new mystery franchise with Great American Family.
The Hallmark competitor announced their new franchise, The Ainsley McGregor Mysteries, in February 2024, and revealed that Bure will play the titular role in the first installment, The Ainsley McGregor Mysteries: A Case for the Winemaker. The film is based on Candace Havens’ book of the same name and follows a former Chicago criminologist who returns to her hometown of Sweet River, Texas.

According to the official logline, Ainsley McGregor “has chosen to trade full-time crime work to open Bless Your Arts, a market for artisans to sell crafts and wares. But she cannot deny her first love is crime solving and accepts a position teaching a criminology class at the local community college. Her skills quickly become a major asset to the quaint town, when a murder occurs at a winery owned by her friend, who now stands accused of the crime.” The film will also feature Ginny & Georgia star Aaron Ashmore as BJ Harrison.
Bure is best known for portraying librarian-turned-sleuth Aurora Teagarden in the first 18 films of Hallmark’s Aurora Teagarden Mysteries franchise. The Full House alum left Hallmark in April 2022 after calling the network home for 13 years and starring in nearly 30 movies. Bure went on to sign a deal with Great American Family and now serves as their chief creative officer. The actress recently revealed the real reason she jumped ships in May 2024, writing on her Instagram Story: “It wasn’t so much about leaving as it was about an opportunity to grow a new network that puts faith and family at the forefront of its content … I’m very proud of the work I did at Hallmark for 15 years and love all my friends there ??.”

Actress Skyler Samuels has since been recast as a younger version of Aurora Teagarden in a prequel series. While speaking to People ahead of her first film for the franchise, Samuels revealed that she didn’t seek Bure out for advice on the role. “When it comes to the new Aurora, though Candace played her originally, for us it was really important that the new Aurora was a reimagining of that character so that she was still very much her own,” she told the outlet. The actress added that she felt a sense of “responsibility” with her new role. “It was our goal to make something that felt familiar but also exciting to the old audience,” she explained, noting that the new films strive to include “elements of the original movies that they love that would feel familiar” while also introducing “some things that felt new and exciting.”
In June 2024, Bure revealed on Instagram that her new mystery series is set to premiere in fall 2024. She also shared a behind-the-scenes photo of her on set as Ainsley McGregor. “There’s nothing more exciting for me than being back in the cozy mystery genre,” Bure said in a statement when the project was first announced. “Mysteries are so fun to watch and to try to solve. I hope our faithful fans and audiences fall in love with the townspeople of Sweet River, Texas and Ainsley McGregor’s keen eye for solving mysteries. In this next-level mystery series, the family dynamics and developing relationships alone should keep you coming back for more!”
