Cardinal Chorale will have its annual workshop at Muskingum University
Summer is “Homecoming” time for The Cardinal Chorale, which will offer its annual Music Workshop at Muskingum University through July 20.
“We are thrilled to return for our ninth summer with high school and collegiate singers, providing a rich musical experience and forming lasting friendships” notes Charles R. Snyder, founder and artistic director of the statewide honor choir. “And right alongside that mission, we have the chance to provide opportunities for the community at large to celebrate the importance music carries in our lives with our annual concert series.”
Evening concert events will be held in the Sandra Wolfe Thompson Theatre in Philip and Betsey Caldwell Hall on the Muskingum University campus and open to the general public. There is no ticket required for admission.
Sunday will feature the 28th edition of the Chorale, as they sing their tour reprise at 7 p.m. Concerts continue on Monday as they welcome sopranos Annie Huckaba and Emily Riggin, Chorale alumni, and graduates of Lebanon High School and Capital University. Huckaba recently won the international award for best performer at a theme park from the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. Capital University's Chad Baker will accompany the singers. Baker serves as University Organist and the Director of Worship and Music at Christ Lutheran Church in Bexley. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday the headliner of the week will be noted singer, songwriter, songleader, activist and John F. Kennedy Center educator Reggie Harris. His presentation, “Songs of Hope and Freedom!” brings powerful selections like “Eyes on the Prize,” “Wade in the Water,” “Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Round,” “We Shall Overcome,” “Oh, Freedom,” and “This Little Light of Mine." The concert is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
With a repertoire that spans genres from traditional spirituals and songs of civil and human rights to his insightful original offerings, the world-traveling troubadour brings a deep reservoir of experience, energy and power to any stage.
Thursday the Chorale will welcome The Roscoe Brass, a spirited brass quintet of area music educators including Donald T. Kason and Ricky D. Harvey on trumpet, Joan E. Kason on horn, Keith A. Watson on trombone, and Stephen L. Hildreth on tuba. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The weeklong event concludes on Saturday, when the 29th edition of the Cardinal Chorale will sing its premiere concert, "Hand in Hand," at 2 p.m.
