Carrie Underwood Talks New Baby, Producing ‘Cry Pretty,’ Performs ‘Love Wins’ on ‘Tonight Show’ Central Park Special: Watch
It’s been an eventful year for Carrie Underwood and the country superstar has no plans to slow down anytime soon — even with baby number two on the way. Stopping by The Tonight Show’ special Central Park edition on Thursday night (Sept. 13), the mom-to-be celebrated the release of her sixth studio album Cry Pretty, described her first experience as a producer with host Jimmy Fallon and performed her new single “Love Wins” — confirming her undeniable supermom status.
Now available everywhere, Cry Pretty was the first album Underwood decided to a different role in by stepping behind the boards and giving producing a try. “Is it different because it’s more work? Is it harder or easier?” Fallon asked. “Kind of both. It’s really exciting because you get to be there for every step of the way, making creative decisions hoping you have some creative sensibility. It was amazing to watch the musicians at work, I gained way more respect for what they do.” the country superstar noted.

As 2018 seems to be the year for new experiences, Underwood is ecstatic to watch her family expand — and so is her three year-old son, Isaiah. “He will be really sweet and talk to my belly, kiss my belly” the 35-year-old told the audience. The singer shared how amazing it’s been to watch her first-born grow as Fallon asked if he has shown any signs of musical abilities. “Do you ever go up to him and try to hear if he sings? Are you like ‘oh, I think he has my vocal chords'” the host asked. “I try… is that wrong? I’m like judging my three-and-a-half year old child to see if he can sing” the singer said laughing. “If he’s not musically inclined, it’s fine. Im just really excited to find out what he’s passionate about… but I really want him to sing.”
Performing her new single “Love Wins” — an emphatic, hopeful reminder that despite our differences, we are all the same — Underwood brought the end-of-Summer magic to the show’s special Central Park stage, marking the first-ever late-night show to broadcast from New York City’s iconic downtown green space.
Earlier in the episode, Crazy Rich Asians’ Henry Golding and A Simple Favor star Blake Lively joined Fallon and Underwood for a round of “Name That Song Challenge.” The game got super competitive as The Roots and the New York Philharmonic played popular songs to the quartet, adding one instrument at a time, as the teams had to buzz in and guessed the titles as quickly as possible. After a few hilarious rounds, Lively and Fallon took the win home.
