Cate Blanchett Goes Backless With Red Statement Sleeves in Louis Vuitton at ‘Black Bag’ U.K. Screening
Cate Blanchett styled a custom look inspired by one of Louis Vuitton’s pieces from the French luxury fashion house’s fall 2023 ready-to-wear collection for the U.K. screening of Steven Soderbergh’s new film “Black Bag” on Tuesday in London. The two-time Oscar-winning actress stars in the film alongside Michael Fassbender.
Blanchett wore a flexible double wool dress in a herringbone motif, forming a sophisticated fitted skirt and rounded halterneck top. Details for the look included a sinuous hourglass cutout on the chest and backless element.

The sleeves of Blanchett’s look created a playful contrast in a vibrant red hue made of nylon twill and finished with a leather trim. Blanchett paired the dress with black over-the-knee boots. The actress joined the French luxury fashion house as an ambassador in 2022.
The Oscar-winning actress’ glam featured a clean look, with her hair pulled back into a tight chignon, save for a few wisps to frame her face. Blanchett’s makeup included a natural visage, with lightly lined eyes. Her accessories featured a few stud earrings. Blanchett regularly collaborates with stylist Elizabeth Stewart, who also works with Amanda Seyfried, among others.
Blanchett’s close relationship with Louis Vuitton began when she fronted the fashion house’s high jewelry campaign back in June 2022. “She’s one of a kind. She transcends culture, she transcends times, she transcends trends. Many things have changed, and she’s there, as relevant as ever,” said Michael Burke, chairman and chief executive officer of Louis Vuitton.
“That staying power is not based just on looks. She has a very specific look, but that’s just the first thing you see. Staying power needs a lot more than just that. And her staying power is her character, how she engages, her humanity, her intelligence, the way she relates to people, how she can talk about so many different subjects. She has gravitas,” he added.
“Black Bag” follows couple George and Kathryn, played by Fassbender and Blanchett, respectively. When Kathryn is suspected of betraying the nation, George must decide what is more important — his wife or his country. The film hits theaters Friday.
