Celebrities Who Don’t Use Nannies
When you’re rich and famous, it’s easy to assume that you have people for everything: a gardener, a posse for outings, a hair and makeup team, and, of course, at least one nanny. Nannies have become an integral part of many family homers, including when it comes to those who reside in Tinseltown. However, there are quite a few celebrities who voted out of a nanny, and there are more than you may think.
Listen, whether you have a nanny or not, everyone parents differently, and there’s no right or wrong when it comes to hiring some extra help. However, it is quite refreshing to see so many celebrities who decided to forgo the huge entourage, and do everything hands-on with their kids.
From beloved celebrity couples like Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, and Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, to celeb moms like Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jenna Fischer, there are way more celebs who haven’t hired nannies than you may think.

Reese Witherspoon & Ryan Phillippe
Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon welcomed two children together: a daughter named Ava Elizabeth Phillippe, born on Sept. 1999, and a son named Deacon Reese Phillippe, born on Oct 2003. Ryan told Metro in 2011 that the pair were very hands-on, and alluded to the fact that they didn’t hire any nannies, saying, “I imagine it would be more difficult if we weren’t as hands-on as we are if we allowed them to be raised by nannies,” he told the publication at the time. “I think then they would become a–holes.”
Cardi B
Cardi B has two children with Offset named Kulture Kiari, born in July 2018, and Wave Set, born in Sept 2021.
“When the baby got here, I couldn’t even think about getting a nanny because I was afraid of anybody being around her besides my family. I’ve never had a nanny for Kulture,” she said to Vogue Singapore.
Celine Dion
Celine Dion has three children with her late husband, René Angélil named René-Charles, born in Jan 2001, and twins Eddy and Nelson, born in Oct 2010.
She gave super-rare details about her home life via OK Magazine, saying, “I didn’t have these children to not take care of them, to give myself to them 200 — 300 percent. Sometimes it’s tiring, but I’m happy to do it day by day.”
Kristen Bell & Dax Shepard
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have two daughters, Lincoln, born in March 2013, and Delta, born in Dec 2014; and no nannies.
“I don’t let myself feel guilty about not committing to things anymore,” she told People in 2016 via Life and Style Magazine, talking about how she ensures her children’s privacy with no nannies. “How I position it in my head is that I have more of an obligation to my daughters than I do to anybody else.”
Jerry O’Connell & Rebecca Romijn
Jerry O’Connell and Rebecca Romijn share twin daughters, Charlie Tamara Tulip and Dolly Rebecca Rose, born in 2008, and have never hired a nanny.
“We’re each other’s assistants. We pick up each other’s slack. Whoever is less busy helps the busier one: ‘Can you go pick up this for me?’ or ‘Can you book my flight?’ ” Romijn said to Redbook in 2013. “That’s what real life is. Once you start paying somebody else to do the grunt work, who are you?”
Mayim Bialik
Mayim Bialik has two sons with her ex-husband, Michael Stone named Miles Roosevelt, born in March 2005, and Frederick Heschel, born in Aug 2008.
Back in 2011, she wrote an article for Kveller saying she “raises [her] own children with no live-in nanny, part-time nanny, babysitter or housekeeper.”
“I don’t want help from someone else or input from anyone other than my husband, who is home with our boys when I am working,” she added.
Ryan Gosling & Eva Mendes
Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes have two daughters together named Esmerelda, born in 2014, and Amada, born in 2016.
“I’m just so obsessed with my kids — I just don’t want to leave them,” Mendes said to ABC News in 2018, with courses backing that up,s saying they haven’t hired a nanny.
Ashton Kutcher & Mila Kunis
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis share a daughter named Wyatt, born Oct 2014, and a son named Dimitri, born in Nov 2016.
“We just want to know our kid,” Kutcher said in 2014 to Conan O’Brien, talking about how they’ll be hands-on parents. “We want to be the people that know what to do when the baby’s crying to make the baby not cry anymore. We want to know, like, when she makes a little face or something, we want to be emotionally in touch with her. And I think the only way to do that is by being the one who’s there.”
Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have four children together named James, born in Dec 2014, Inez, born in Sept 2016, Betty, born in Oct 2018, and Olin, born in Feb 2023. Despite being two A-listers and being a family of six, there are no nannies involved.
In an interview with GQ, Reynolds revealed they do it all themselves, saying, “I have no problem waking up five times in the middle of the night and changing diapers, and as exhausted as you get, I have this stupid grin on my face all the time,”.
Jennifer Love Hewitt
Jennifer Love Hewitt and her husband Brian Hallisay have three children: a daughter named Autumn James, born in Nov 2013, and two sons named Atticus James, born in June 2015, and Aiden James, born in Aug 2021.
And they do it all themselves.
“We didn’t have a night nurse, we didn’t have a nanny,” she said to People. “We haven’t ever had any of that stuff. It’s been really interesting to do it all ourselves.”
Jenna Fischer
Jenna Fischer has two children with her husband, Lee Kirk named Weston Lee, born in Sept 2011, and Harper Grace, born in May 2014.
“It’s so funny because I think there’s the perception that every [famous] woman has a driver and a chef and a personal trainer and a nanny. I don’t have any of those things. Like other working moms,” she said to People back in 2020.
Brad Paisley & Kimberly Williams-Paisley
Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams-Paisley share two children together named Jasper, born in April 2007, and William Huckleberry born in April. 2009
Brad told People his stance on nannies, bluntly saying they don’t have a nanny, “I don’t care how high and mighty you are: Change a diaper, man.”
