A24 sets release date for Celine Song's Materialists
Materialists, Celine Song's first film since the Oscar-nominated Past Lives, will hit theaters on June 13, A24 announced. Written, directed, and produced by Song, Materialists stars Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans (whose birthday is June 13), and Pedro Pascal. It follows a New York City matchmaker (Johnson) who's torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex. The cast includes Zo? Winters, Marin Ireland, Dasha Nekrasova, and Louisa Jacobson. Steve Carell to lead Jesse Armstrong's HBO film set for spring premiere
Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youssef will star in Jesse Armstrong's new HBO film that will premiere in the spring, making it eligible for the Emmys. Written, directed, and executive-produced by Armstrong, the previously announced project follows a group of billionaire friends who get together against the backdrop of a rolling international crisis. The as-yet-untitled film marks Armstrong's directorial debut and his first project since Succession ended in May 2023.
"I'm intrigued to discover whether being around so many brilliant actors and directors on Succession has in any way rubbed off on me," Armstrong said in a statement. "Let's hope so. I'm grateful to Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi and the whole HBO team for backing this film so wholeheartedly and helping me pull together a dream team of cast and crew."
Tom Hardy is Pierce Brosnan's fixer in Guy Ritchie's MobLand trailer
Paramount+ dropped the trailer for Guy Ritchie's new series MobLand starring Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren. Brosnan plays Conrad, the head of a crime family fighting for power within a global syndicate. Hardy plays Harry Da Souza, the family fixer, and Mirren plays Conrad's wife Maeve. The cast includes Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Geoff Bell, Daniel Betts, Lisa Dwan, and Emily Barber. Mobland premieres March 30.
Kevin Bacon hunts demons in The Bondsman trailer
Kevin Bacon is back from the dead to hunt demons in the first trailer for Amazon's The Bondsman. The actor plays Hub Halloran, a murdered bounty hunter who is resurrected by the Devil to trap and send back demons that have escaped from the prison of Hell. "By chasing down those demons, with the help and hindrance of his estranged family, Hub learns how his own sins got his soul condemned — which pushes him to seek a second chance at life, love, and country music," reads the logline. The cast includes Jennifer Nettles, Damon Herriman, Beth Grant, Maxwell Jenkins, and Jolene Purdy. All eight episodes will hit Prime Video on April 3.
Get a first look at Alex Garland's Warfare
A24 released a first look at Alex Garland's new film Warfare about the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Written and directed by Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza and Garland, Warfare follows American Navy SEALs in the home of an Iraqi family, over-watching the movement of US forces through insurgent territory. "A visceral, boots-on-the-ground story of modern warfare, told like never before: in real time and based on the memory of the people who lived it," the logline reads. The cast includes Joseph Quinn, Will Poulter, Kit Connor, D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Charles Melton, Cosmo Jarvis, Finn Bennett, Taylor John Smith, Michael Gandolfini, Adain Bradley, Noah Centineo, Evan Holtzman, Henrique Zaga, and Aaron Deakins. The film opens April 11.
Rachel Weisz to star in Netflix limited series Vladimir
Rachel Weisz will star in Netflix's upcoming limited series Vladimir. Based on the Julia May Jonas novel, the series follows a woman, played by Weisz, who becomes obsessed with a new colleague. "Full of sexy secrets, dark humor and complex characters, Vladimir is about what happens when a woman goes hell-bent to turn her fantasies into reality," the logline states. Jonas will serve as a writer and executive producer on the series. Kate Robin (Six Feet Under, The Affair) will serve as showrunner, and Sharon Horgan and Jason Winer will be executive producers.
Neil Patrick Harris to guest-star on Dexter: Resurrection
Neil Patrick Harris is the latest big name to join Paramount+ With Showtime's Dexter: Resurrection. The Emmy winner will guest-star as a character named Lowell. No other details were released. Dexter: Resurrection will see Michael C. Hall reprise his role as Dexter Morgan. Franchise stalwarts David Zayas, James Remar, and Jack Alcott are returning as well. Previously announced new cast members include Uma Thurman and Peter Dinklage, and guest star Krysten Ritter. Dinklage plays a mysterious billionaire named Leon Prater, while Thurman plays Charley, a former special ops officer who works for Prater. Dexter: Resurrection will premiere this summer.
Hacks adds Julianne Nicholson, Michaela Watkins, and more for Season 4
There'll be a Mare of Easttown reunion on Hacks. Julianne Nicholson, who won an Emmy for the limited series and beat costar Jean Smart in the process, is among the Season 4 guest stars on Hacks. Other Season 4 newcomers are Michaela Watkins, Bresha Webb (Run the World, Sisters), Robby Hoffman (Verified, Too Far podcast), Eric Balfour (The Offer, Six Feet Under), Danny Jolles (Ted, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Gavin Matts (Progression, Ramy), Grover Whitmore, III (The African Desperate), Holmes (Welcome to Flatch, Overcompensating), Jasmine Ashanti (Upload, Grey’s Anatomy), Katy Sullivan (Dexter: New Blood, Broadway’s Cost of Living), Matt Oberg (The Residence, Abbott Elementary), and Sandy Honig (Three Busy Debras, The Young Wife). Additionally, there will be "exciting surprise cameos," Max teased. The Season 4 logline reads: "Tensions rise as Deborah (Smart) and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) endeavor to get their late night show off the ground and make history doing it." The Emmy-winning series will return in the spring.
