Chance The Rapper States Apple Paid Him $500,000 For ‘Coloring Book’ Exclusivity
Chance The Rapper has branded himself as an independent artist, and rightfully so with no major label backing him. Many have tried to recently discredit that notion because of his relationships with major corporations. In a recent interview with Complex, the Chicago native said that he might sell his debut album, but that’s “just an idea.” With Lil Chano pledging $1,000,000 to the Chicago public school system at the beginning of March, he will keep using his relationships for a good cause.
The 23-year-old artist took to Twitter to clear the air regarding his partnership with Apple and discussed the $500,000 check he received for Coloring Book’s two week exclusive streaming window. “That was the extent of my deal, after 2 weeks it was on SoundCloud for free,” he said on Twitter. “I needed the money and they’re all good people over there. I just wanna remain transparent. Folks out there without a deal need to know they’re doing everything right just keep at it.”
I never felt the need to correct folks on my relationship with @apple but now that more people have tried to discredit my independence..
