Cheyenne Jackson reveals what could have been in “Borderlands” with BTS photos of Hammerlock and Jakobs' wedding
"Sometimes you're left on the cutting room floor."
Looking at wedding photos is usually a joyous occasion, but the pics Cheyenne Jackson recently shared on Instagram from the set of Borderlands might be bittersweet for fans looking forward to the upcoming film.
On Friday, the actor posted two behind-the-scenes shots as he filmed the wedding between his character Wainwright Jakobs and Sir Alistair Hammerlock (Charles Babalola) that was left on the cutting room floor.
"Sometimes you run through the salt mines of Budapest with Cate Blanchett, @kevinhart4real, ariana_greenblatt and @jamieleecurtis …. and sometimes you’re left on the cutting room floor. But that doesn’t take away from the INCREDIBLE experience I had with @eliroth and my movie hubs @charles_babzy," Jackson wrote in the photo caption. "Thanks to @lionsgate and everyone involved. Maybe I’ll see ya in the sequel! And go see @borderlandsfilm in theatres everywhere August 9th! It’s BANANAS!"
Borderlands is based on the popular video game of the same name. The movie adaptation will follow gun-slinger Lilith's (Cate Blanchett) mission to find the missing daughter of mercurial billionaire, Atlas (Edgar Ramirez). Entertainment Weekly exclusively reported on Tuesday that director Eli Roth had cut the Hammerlock and Jakobs wedding from the upcoming film, along with a few Scooter (Steven Boyer) and Ellie (Ryann Redmund) scenes.
"It was one of those things that we all loved," Roth specifically said of the wedding. "We loved the actors. The scene itself turned out great, but in the overall mission of the film it felt like a detour that stopped the mood and then went back."
In one pic, Jackson sports a snazzy magenta velvet jacket as he sits between Penn Jillette and Babalola. Ariana Greenblatt, who plays Tiny Tina in the movie, can be seen posing behind the trio.

However, there is still hope for the footage to see the light of day. Hammerlock and Jakobs' relationship was revealed in Borderlands 3, which was released in 2019 for PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox One, and later macOS and Stadia. Their wedding took place in the game's 2020 downloadable content Guns, Love, and Tentacles, when the pair invited their friends to their nuptials on the frosty planet Xylourgos.

If there are to be more Boderland film adventures in the future, the Hammerlock and Jakobs nuptials could show up in the movie sequels.
"All you can say is, you know what? If we're lucky to do another one, we know we got them for another one," Roth said of the possibility. "And that's a very hard thing, but ultimately your responsibility is to the movie and to the story."
Borderlands arrives in theaters on Aug. 9.
