The new additions come as the medical drama is saying goodbye to a longtime cast member: Dominic Rains, who since Season 5 had played trauma surgeon Dr. Crockett Marcel, will not be returning next season. In the May 22 Season 9 finale, Crockett was rocked by the news that his former patient died and that the little boy’s dad committed suicide. He tearfully confessed to Maggie (Marlyne Barrett) that he knew how the dad felt because he, too, lost a child. He added that he never took the time to grieve his daughter’s death, which made many viewers wonder whether he needed to take some time to do just that.
Last month, original cast members S. Epatha Merkerson (aka Sharon Goodwin), Oliver Platt (Dr. Daniel Charles) and Marlyne Barrett (Maggie Lockwood) each closed a new deal to extend their run on the series through the 2024-25 season. Additionally, Luke Mitchell, who joined the show last season in the recurring role of Dr. Mitch Ripley, will be back as a series regular.
Ramos is no stranger to NBC: In addition to playing Haddie Braverman on Parenthood for five seasons, she co-starred on the network’s Midnight, Texas and American Dreams. Her other TV credits include The Bear and Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.
Barnet is coming off a four-season run on the Netflix comedy Never Have I Ever. He also recently had supporting roles in the movies Road House and Anyone But You.
The new season of NBC’s Chicago Med begins Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 8/7c, where it will as usual lead into Chicago Fire Season 13 and then Chicago P.D. Season 12.
