Chloe Fineman Says New “SNL” Cast Members Are ‘Thrown into the Fire’: ‘Have Fun’ (Exclusive)

On Tuesday, Sept. 17, Fineman, 36, spoke to PEOPLE at the Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program luncheon, which supports women filmmakers by teaching them how to present their short film ideas to the industry. While there, she shared some insight about what it's like being a newcomer on the long-running NBC sketch series.
“Have fun,” the SNL comedian says. “Yeah ... You kind of are, like, thrown into the fire.”

Chloe FinemanPEOPLE previously reported that SNL will be shaking up their cast for their upcoming 50th season.
On Sept. 9, the late-night sketch comedy series announced that three new comedians will join the show this year.

The new cast members include Emil Wakim, Ashley Padilla and Jane Wickline. This comes after featured player Chloe Troast’s exit from the show after one season.

Other cast members who confirmed their departure included Punkie Johnson and Molly Kearney.
While Johnson stated there's "no bad blood," Kearney thanked fans for an "amazing 2 seasons."

Chloe Fineman on Saturday Night Live in 2023Meanwhile, at the Through Her Lens luncheon on Tuesday, Fineman also shared her favorite thing about working with women on set.
“I just think there's a safety and a level of trust that is really special,” she tells PEOPLE. “Also, I did a movie this summer with a female DP and a female director and, like, we didn't yell, you know.”
She adds, “It wasn't a lot of screaming. It was rare. I'm used to, you're kind of like, wait and then you go to act and there's a lot of screaming ... but it was like a pretty even ship.”
“And I think that was really nice,” Fineman continues. “And also, I think, you know, there's a level of trust that happens as an actor and, in movie-making. And I think when you have a woman who really like intrinsically understands you, magic happens.”
Saturday Night Live season 50 premieres Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
