Chris Jericho: Swerve Strickland Is AEW’s Team Captain
Chris Jericho speaks highly of AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland.
In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Chris Jericho commented on Strickland’s title run. He also noted that WWE letting him go was mind-boggling.
“This is only his first time as champ and look what he’s doing,” Jericho said. “Wait until the second time and the third time and the fourth time. He has star written all over him.”
“I don’t know how you could ever let that guy go,” Jericho continued. “Swerve and MJF are two guys I watch and always think, ‘How did he pull that off?’ Swerve’s still not even at the peak of his character, and he already has this great connection with the crowd.”
Jericho went on to say that Swerve Strickland was the team captain for AEW, and he was proud to be on that roster.
“His persona is larger-than-life, he works extremely hard, and he’s a good f—— person,” he said. “His energy is amazing–the man can tear the house down. Swerve is our team captain right now, and I’m proud to be on that roster.”
Swerve Strickland On His Time In AEW
In a recent interview, Strickland commented on the biggest difference between his time in WWE and AEW. When asked about it while speaking with Barrasso, he highlighted the way AEW has invested in him.
“TV time, that’s an investment,” Swerve Strickland said. “Tony Khan gave me that. He gave me that with top talent. Top tag team talent. Top managerial talent. Rick Ross. Everywhere, all throughout the show. That’s what everyone wants, and Tony Khan offered that to me. When you don’t get that, it crushes your spirit. I could ask for a minute in a promo, and Tony would give it to me. That means more than people will ever know.”
