Chris Matthews called 'sexist' for constantly interrupting Elizabeth Warren: Has he 'ever met a woman he doesn't want to talk over?'
“Master Interrupter” Chris Matthews was at it again while interviewing Elizabeth Warren after Tuesday’s debate — and social media didn’t like it. Some even branded him “sexist” over the exchange.
A clip of MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews host interviewing the Democratic presidential hopeful saw him continuously talking over her. Matthews was trying to get Warren to say she would raise taxes on the middle class to fund a proposed Medicare for All policy — saying she and the others “dodged” the answer in the debate — but she wouldn’t.
During the one-on-one, Warren continuously tried to give her answer, but Matthews yelled things like, “No, no, no” and “I know that argument” as we spoke.
Matthews finally said, “I’m not getting anywhere” and changed the topic.
Matthew’s interview tactic didn’t go unnoticed. One widely-liked and shared comment applauded the Massachusetts senator for standing up to Matthews, saying, “She’s got a spine of steel” and Matthews “should be ashamed.”

Many of the comments applauded Warren for holding steady and “not letting [Matthews] hijack the narrative.” Another said she went “full professor” on him.
Chris Matthews wants Elizabeth Warren to say taxes will go up w/universal healthcare. She’s trying to explain to him that it’s not about taxes. It’s that a person’s overall costs will go down. I love Warren for not letting Chris hijack the narrative. #DemocraticDebate #DemDebate pic.twitter.com/d8EoNjYgRc

PSA—Chris Matthews is harassing Senator Warren right now on @MSNBC because he’s worried about his own taxes. #WhatAPrick #Warren2020

I'm glad Warren is cutting off Chris Matthews' arrogant ass

How the hell Warren is managing not to scream at Chris Matthews is beyond me.
CHRIS - what the hell does it matter if I pay $1500 more in taxes if I SAVE $15,000 in effing insurance and medical care costs?— Annabeth Amerine (@WarmGingerTea) July 31, 2019
The only person that yells more than Bernie Sanders is Chris Matthews. pic.twitter.com/ovih2GoIWD

The exchange led many to connect his interview style with her gender.
chris matthews has always been the worst, and he especially can't stand women that run for president pic.twitter.com/h9vZGK4iqT

Riddle me this. Why is Chris Matthews going after Elizabeth Warren, but when it's a male candidate, he is personable? Does he just loathe the very idea of a female president? pic.twitter.com/LT0q75SWmg

It's because of troglodytes like Chris Matthews we don't have a woman President. https://t.co/WmUbqfA78q

Has Chris Matthews ever met a woman he doesn’t want to talk over? @MSNBC, isn’t it time for a better host for Hardball?
— Ben Jackson (@DadoftheDecade) July 31, 2019
Chris Matthews is still ridiculous and rude and not all that bright. In this case, he was flustered because a strong, smart woman failed to kowtow to his orders and demands. He is so yesterday it is pathetic. And he is not - as he claims - progressive. He is regressive.

“Sexist” was a word used over and over again.
Dead @MSNBC - please get rid of Chris Matthews. He is simply terrible. Sexist. Rude. Overbearing.

Elizabeth Warren is running for president and she still has to put up with men speaking over her.
Chris Matthews owes Elizabeth Warren an apology for being a rude, sexist ass. https://t.co/kE0bCtH8YI— PaulaMZR (@PaulaMZR) July 31, 2019
Chris Matthews is SO GODDAMN LOUD SEXIST AND ANNOYING. GOOD JOB, AMERICAN ADULTS OF THE 2000s. HE REPRESENTS YOU PERFECTLY. https://t.co/zWguY8NDsW

Matthew’s interview style isn’t new. His colleague Rachel Maddow once dubbed him the “Master Interrupter.” There are entire threads devoted to the topic of: Why does Chris Matthews talk over people?
His interrupting of women hasn’t gone unnoticed either. Mediate made a supercut on the topic — three years ago. All the instances came from one episode of his show.
He’s also been parodied on Saturday Night Live over it.
For the record, Matthews said in June that he thinks Warren is going to be a frontrunner in the 2020 presidential race. On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,
he predicted that she will “blow out” fellow contender Bernie Sanders “pretty early on.” He also called her an “engine of ideas,” “smart” and “someone to watch.”
