Circa ’21 announces 48th season lineup
Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse announced its 48th season of treating audiences to the finest in dining and professional stage entertainment in the QCA!
The lineup includes six mainstage productions featuring three Tony Award-winning Broadway smashes, a debuting mystery comedy involved a famed sleuth, a salute to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll and the musical version of a holiday film classic.
‘Miracle on 34th Street: The Musical’ (November 6 – December 29)
Single mother Doris doesn’t want her six-year-old Susan’s head filled with romantic notions. Their neighbor Fred tries to woo Doris by charming Susan and taking her to see Santa Claus at Macy’s, where Doris works. Doris isn’t impressed, but when it turns out that Macy’s Santa may, in fact, be the real Kris Kringle, a wave of love spreads across New York City that melts even the most cynical hearts. Filled with humor, spectacle, and charming charms, this adaptation of the Oscar-winning movie classic is a joyous musical and the perfect holiday treat.

‘Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery’ (January 15 – March 8)
Comedic genius Ken Ludwig, whose “Murder on the Orient Express” was a 47th-season hit for Circa ’21, transforms Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic “The Hound of the Baskervilles” into a murderously funny adventure. Sherlock is on the case as the male heirs of the Baskerville line are being dispatched one by one. To find their ingenious killer, Holmes and Watson must brave the desolate moors before a family curse dooms its newest heir, with this fast-paced exhilarating stage show boasting five actors who deftly portray more than 40 characters.

‘Heartbreak Hotel’ (March 12 – May 3)
A brilliant homage to the life of rock ‘n’ roll’s King, the show takes audiences from Presley’s humble beginning as a child in Tupelo, Mississippi through to his triumphant 1968 comeback special. A celebration of one of the most influential artists the grace the world, this bio-musical will have audiences dancing in the aisles to unforgettable tunes including “That’s All Right,” “All Shook Up,” “Hound Dog,” “Blue Suede Shoes” and, of course, “Heartbreak Hotel.”

‘Chicago’ (May 7 – July 5)
After 27 consistent years in New York, this is still the one musical to feature everything that makes Broadway shimmy-shake: a universal tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz filled with showstopping songs and inventive choreography. No wonder that this legendary Kander & Ebb production has been honored with six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards, a Grammy Award, a film adaptation that won six Oscars including Best Picture and, needless to say, thousands upon thousands of standing ovations.

‘Mary Poppins’ (July 9 – September 6)
The jack-of-all-trades Bert introduces us to the troubled Banks family, where young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, the new nanny must teach the family members how to value each other again, and this wildly entertaining musical comedy for family audiences will boast all the songs fans adore, including “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Step in Time,” “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” and the tongue-twisting “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”

‘Come From Away’ (September 10 – November 1)
This beautiful stage piece tells a true story that has become legendary, detailing how, on September 11 of 2001, the residents of the isolated small town of Gander, Newfoundland played host to the world. When 38 planes carrying thousands of people from around the globe were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on a moment’s notice, it doubled the size of the island’s tiny population. But residents banded together to house, clothe, and feed nearly 7,000 plane passengers, and their inspiring tale is told in this Tony-winning musical through inventive stagecraft and gorgeous music and lyrics.

Circa ’21’s mainstage productions are performed on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.; doors open at 5:45 p.m. and dinner served from 6:00-7:00 p.m. – Sundays at 5:30 p.m.; doors open at 3:45 p.m. doors and dinner served from 4:00-5:00 p.m – Wednesday matinées at 1:15 p.m.; doors open at 11:45 a.m. and lunch served at noon. Performance are preceded by a 15-minute stage entertainment with the Circa ’21 Bootleggers.
