New clip from ‘The Studio’ mocks the politics of awards acceptance speeches
Hours before the Academy crowns a new set of Oscar winners, Apple and Seth Rogen have pulled back the curtain on the politics of acceptance speeches.
In a new clip from The Studio, the upcoming Apple TV+ comedy series about Hollywood, Rogen’s studio boss, Matt Remick, begs Zo? Kravitz (playing herself) to thank him in her potential Golden Globe Awards acceptance speech later that night. She’s not having it. “You don’t understand. I have practiced this in the mirror a million times. I can’t change it now. It’s perfect,” she says before explaining how she’ll feign surprise and gratitude while building to an emotional climax. As Remick pleads for Kravitz to reconsider, Globes host Ramy Youssef (also playing himself) urges Remick to be quiet lest he further interrupt the host’s vibe.

“I’m trying to show Christopher Nolan that I have range, and all I can hear is you whining,” Youssef says.
Created by Rogen and Evan Goldberg alongside Emmy winners Peter Huyck and Alex Gregory (Veep) and Frida Perez, The Studio is a Hollywood satire about a fledgling studio boss who tries to hold his legacy brand together in a changing industry. Here’s the official plot summary:
As movies struggle to stay alive and relevant, Matt and his core team of infighting executives battle their insecurities as they wrangle narcissistic artists and craven corporate overlords in the ever-elusive pursuit of making great films. With their power suits masking their never-ending sense of panic, every party, set visit, casting decision, marketing meeting and award show presents them with an opportunity for glittering success or career-ending catastrophe. As someone who eats, sleeps and breathes movies, it’s the job Matt’s been pursuing his whole life, and it may very well destroy him.
Rogen and Goldberg co-directed all 10 episodes of Season 1 and co-wrote several others. Rogen leads the cast, with support from Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, Kathryn Hahn, and Catherine O’Hara. Several major stars and directors, including Kravitz and Youssef, make appearances on the show as heightened versions of themselves.
The Studio debuts on Apple TV+ on March 26.
