Hallmark + is coming out strong out of the gate with their new scripted series, The Chicken Sisters, which debuts the same day as the streaming platform’s premiere date, Tuesday, Sept. 10. The show is based on a best-selling novel by KJ Dell’Antonia and focuses on rival fried chicken restaurants in a small town with a web of family secrets. The neighborhood goes into a frenzy when a reality TV cooking competition, Kitchen Clash, comes to town and pits the two restaurants against each other. Who is going to rule the roost?

On Chicken Mimi’s team, it’s Gus (Wendie Malick) and her daughter Mae (Genevieve Angelson) versus Chicken Frannie’s team with Nancy (Lea Thompson) and her daughter-in-law Amanda (Schuyler Fisk). To make matters even more complicated, Amanda just happens to be Gus’ younger daughter — let’s just say it gets messy quickly! Soaps.com got into the cluckin’ fray and decided to ask all four actresses why viewers should be rooting for them.

Let’s start with Malick and Angelson, whose great chemistry popped off the screen and right into our interview — they were ready to put up a fight for #TeamMimi. Angelson quickly praised their characters, “Mimi’s girls are real. Mimi’s girls are maybe a little bit loose, maybe a little bit more direct, maybe from the wrong sides of the tracks a little bit, but, in fact, we do have better chicken.” Malick then chimed in with her own mic-drop moment that summed up Gus with one sentence, adding, “We’re spicier.” But, oh they weren’t done!

“I feel like we’re violent,” laughed Malick.

Angelson quipped, “We were probably the girls in high school who were like sneaking cigarettes behind the bleachers… Maybe didn’t finish high school.”

“Kind of the bad seed,” Malick whispered. “And spawning maybe marginally bad seeds.” You get the idea — Gus and Mae are no shrinking violets!

Things will be a bit tamer over on #TeamFrannie where everything always seems so lovely, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t ready for their tough competition. Thompson and Fisk had quite a bit of confidence in their tender-lovin’ chicken recipe. “We’re the best,” Thompson promised while Fisk chimed in, “Best chicken!

“We’re the best girls. We’re the best chicken,” said Thompson. “We’re the purdiest.”

“We’re the do-gooders. We’re the sweetest,” Fisk added enthusiastically. “We’ll help you out. We’re scrappy.” While fans will have to wait and see who pulled out the win in this chicken fight, we have a feeling that no one should underestimate the “scrappy” Frannie team against the “spicy” Mimi gals because both sides prove very early on that they will do whatever it takes to win.

And it might get too hot in the kitchen because The Chicken Sisters isn’t just about food, there’s deceit, romance, affairs, and humor ready to fry up a good time.

The Chicken Sisters premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 10 on Hallmark +.
