“Clueless”' Breckin Meyer Remembers Late Costar Brittany Murphy: 'Wish I Could See What She Would Have Done Now’

"Brittany was so crazy talented, and only the surface had been dealt with," said Meyer during a recent podcast interview

Breckin Meyer has nothing but fond memories of his late Clueless costar, Brittany Murphy.

The actor, 49, discussed why Murphy — who died at age 32 on Dec. 20, 2009 — was one of the "greatest people I know" on the Monday, April 15, episode of the Still Here Hollywood podcast hosted by Steve Kmetko.

"Britt passed away as an adult, but she’s one of those people who I always think about. I wish I could see what she would have done now," said Meyer.

"Brittany was so crazy talented, and only the surface had been dealt with," he continued. "She was such a good singer, and seeing how many people cross over into music and movies, I was like, 'Oh, I would have loved to see Brittany do that.' "

In the 1995 comedy, Murphy played Tai Frasier, the new girl in school who catches the eye of Meyer's character Travis Birkenstock.

Meyer said auditioning for the role was "easy" since he and Murphy played boyfriend and girlfriend multiple times before appearing in the film.

"And then Britt and I did King of the Hill together for 8 years," he said. "And then I took over for a role she did — not when she passed away, before that, like the character’s voice changed and I took over, but she was still Luanne on King of the Hill. After Clueless, Brittany and I worked together for another 8 years."

Her death was something that hit him hard.

He recalled being at Ryan Phillippe's house, who "lived five houses from Brittany," when they heard sirens and did not know what was going on.

"When we all heard, it was terrible," recalled Meyer. "Brittany was… she was a bottle of soda; she was the sun. She was so effervescent and great and for her to pass away like that, in such a s---ty way and in such a toxic relationship, just was terrible. Not only because its your friend, but what everyone else doesn’t get to see anymore."
