‘The Comeback’ Returning to HBO for Six-Episode Run

“The Comeback” is finally making a comeback of its own. After an almost 10-years absence, the Lisa Kudrow-starring cult hit will be returning to HBO for a six-episode season this fall. Production is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles this month.

After weeks of speculation, the network announced the show’s return on Monday.

“The Comeback holds a special place in the hearts of its many fans, including many of us here at HBO,” HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said in a press release. “I can’t wait to find out what Valerie’s been up to since we last met.”

The one-season wonder had a 13-episode run on the network back in 2005. Kudrow, who co-created the series with Michael Patrick King, plays fading “it girl” Valerie Cherish, a former sitcom star trying to make a comeback on a new show while shooting a reality show.

“The Comeback” explored the making of a sitcom, the nature of reality TV and the hurdles women come up against in Hollywood.

In addition to Kudrow, the confirmed cast includes Lance Barber, Dan Bucatinsky, Robert Michael Morris, Laura Silverman and Damian Young. Season two will be written by King, Kudrow, Amy B. Harris and John Riggi, and exec produced by King, Kudrow and her producing partner, Bucatinsky.

Kudrow, who had a multiple-episode arc on ABC’s “Scandal” this season, will also return for another season of Showtime’s “Web Therapy.” The fourth season of the comedy is set to air this year.
