Comedian Atsuko Okatsuka Sets Special With Hulu

Comedian Atsuko Okatsuka is set to debut her sophomore special on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally, Disney announced on Tuesday.

Okatsuka is getting into business with Hulu after debuting her first special, The Intruder, on HBO in 2022. While no title or logline for her new hour has been disclosed, she’ll tape it at El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on Saturday November 9 as part of a newly added date on her 2024 “Full Grown Tour,” produced by Live Nation. Okatsuka’s “Full Grown Tour” continues September 13 with 20 dates across the U.S. and Canada. Presale tickets for the LA shows will be available beginning September 4 at 10 a.m. local with general on-sale beginning September 6 at the same time.

Stated Okatsuka, “As a company that pioneered cartoons, it was only a matter of time until they asked to work with me. I mean look at me. I rock a bowl cut and wear bright colors. I am Toon Town. Excited to bring good times and shenanigans to the people of the world with the Disney/Hulu family.”

In total, Okatsuka’s “Full Grown Tour” will feature over 200 shows in 100+ cities, with over 100,000 tickets sold. Known for viral stunts like the #DropChallenge, which she created with her grandmother, she released her first comedy album But I Control Me with Comedy Dynamics in 2020.

As an actress, Okatsuka has been seen on series like Room 104 and History of the World: Part II and in indies like All That We Love and Scare Package. She lent her voice to Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and will next be seen in Apple’s comedy Outcome co-written, directed, produced by and starring Jonah Hill.

Okatsuka’s special comes to Hulu as part of its new stand-up comedy brand, Hularious, which launches in November with a new special from Jim Gaffigan. Recently, the streamer has also announced forthcoming specials from Bill Burr, Roy Wood Jr. and Ilana Glazer, with more soon to be unveiled. As part of its new comedy initiative, Hulu is also launching a curated collection of licensed stand-up specials ranging from iconic comedy specials to recent releases from 800 Pound Gorilla and Comedy Dynamics, among others.
