This Comedian's Pitch to Be a WNBA Trophy Husband Is Going Viral
Women's basketball has seen a surge in popularity in recent months thanks in large part to talented college players like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Cameron Brink joining the WNBA. The league's growing profile is also attracting some men who are ready to be Basketball Wives, or rather, Basketball Husbands.
Comedian Dan Carney shared his pitch on Instagram for why he'd be the perfect fit for a lady hooper. "Pure strength, pure will. That's what I'm looking for in a wife. My name is Dan Carney, and I want to be the trophy husband for a WNBA player," he introduced himself.
He frames his unemployment as a good thing for his future wife. "I don't really have a job, which is actually a good thing because if you get traded, I'm ready to get up and go. I don't really have any close friends or family," he said. "I could be the Savannah [James] to your LeBron."
"I don't need to work," he continued. "I am very comfortable living on just $65,000 a year."
He went on to cite other, non-relationship-related reasons why he'd be the best trophy husband pick. "I don't just need to be your trophy husband. I could be your trainer. I could rebound for you," he said while demonstrating his skills on the court.
He also simulated how he would react if a referee called a foul on his wife, tackling the ref to the ground and threatening to kill them. "That's the type of passion you can expect when we're happily married together," he concluded. "No one calls a foul on my baby girl. Nope. Not my breadwinner."
In the comments on the post, Carney began shooting his shot by tagging star WNBA players like Cameron Brink and Kelsey Plum. It didn't take long for Brink's boyfriend Ben Felter to reply. "Facts," Felter responded to Carney's Brink tag, to which Carney answered "Yo, my bad, bro."
With a whole league full of talented players, it's certainly possible Carney's match could be among the WNBA's ranks.
