Community Movie Update: Yvette Nicole Brown Confirms She’s Returning as Shirley
Our prayers have been answered, Community fans: Shirley Bennett is back.
Yvette Nicole Brown will reprise her role as the devoutly religious Greendale student in the upcoming Community movie, the actress tells Parade. The long-delayed Peacock project “will happen!” she emphasizes. “We don’t know when, but I’m on board. And that might be a scoop because for the longest time, it wasn’t confirmed.” (When reached by TVLine, Peacock declined to comment.)

The Community movie, officially ordered by Peacock in September 2022, will reunite Brown with co-stars Joel McHale (Jeff), Gillian Jacobs (Britta), Alison Brie (Annie), Donald Glover (Troy), Danny Pudi (Abed) and Jim Rash (Dean Pelton). The plot reportedly revolves around a college reunion at Greendale, with Abed returning to campus as a big-time movie director. Filming was set to begin in June 2023, but was delayed by last year’s dual Hollywood strikes. (For the latest on the Community movie, check out our rundown of everything we know so far.)
Brown co-starred as Shirley in all six seasons of Community, which debuted on NBC in 2009, with its sixth and final season airing on Yahoo! Screen. (Shirley only appeared in Season 6’s premiere and finale, though.) Her other TV credits include The Odd Couple, Big Shot, Mom and The Mayor.
