Conan O'Brien: Captain Make America Great Again video segment
This week ended up with not one, but two big-name conventions: the Republican National Convention in Cleveland and the annual Comic-Con International in San Diego. As usual, Conan O’Brien went to San Diego to cover Comic-Con, but the RNC wasn’t far from his mind, either. In fact, O’Brien simultaneously satirized both conventions by unveiling a new superhero: Captain Make America Great Again.
Dressed like a combination of Donald Trump and Captain America (star-spangled costume *and* dress slacks), Captain Make America Great Again bragged about having “all the best superpowers,” and used Comic-Con cosplayers to parody Trump’s anti-immigration rhetoric.
“Let me say this: that Klingon planet, they’re not sending their best,” the captain said. “We’re getting rapist Klingons, drug-dealing Klingons, and they all seem very angry. None of them speak English.”
Captain Make America Great Again promised to build a wall between the Klingon planet “and make the aliens pay for it,” getting mostly boos for the remarks. He finished his speech with a quick “Hail Hydra,” causing even O’Brien to burst into laughter.
