‘Connected’ Host Latif Nasser, Carly Mensch Buy in Eagle Rock
Sometimes nerd-ing out can pay off! Latif Nasser, the Radiolab co-host, science reporter and self-proclaimed “nerdy writer type,” has scored a Netflix hosting gig. The docuseries “Connected: The Hidden Science of Everything” explores all the weird, wacky, and wonderful ways science connects us to the universe and each other. Nasser and his Primetime Emmy Award-winning playwright/screenwriter wife Carly Mensch (“Glow”) can celebrate that success in style, having recently plunked down just under $2.3 million for a newly revamped Eastside home.
The couple’s new house is located deep in the residential part of Eagle Rock on a quiet, unassuming street. The house was significantly remodeled just before Nasser and Mensch bought it; previously, the yard lay nearly bare save for a few scraggly trees, and while the fa?ade of the home remains largely intact, it did get a major face lift. There’s now a trendy modern farmhouse look and a lengthy, carefully manicured lawn. The clapboard exterior of the house has been painted a severe gray, which neatly contrasts with its honey colored front door and backyard gate.

Nasser and Mensch’s new purchase clocks in at roomy 3,543 square feet with five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. Plus, in addition to the main structure, the property also has a separate two-bedroom, one-bathroom guesthouse — perfect for those extended stay visitors. Wheat colored hardwood floors, pure white walls, a smattering of recessed lighting and an easy breezy, open floorplan can be found throughout the home.
Inside the house, guests will immediately find themselves in the great room which contains the formal living area, dining space and kitchen. The sitting area lies to the right of the great room and is bathed in natural light thanks to a series of sliding sash windows and a French door that opens up to the backyard. On the opposite side of the space is the formal dining area — or at least that’s how the room has been staged. Since there aren’t any sensational light fixtures or walls that separate either area, they could be switched around if that would tickle Nasser and Mensch’s fancy.
All eyes in the room will likely be drawn to the showstopping kitchen, which serves as the visual anchor of the space. The cabinets have been painted a dramatic shade of royal blue, which pairs well with the calacatta quartz countertops that cover the stove area and waterfalls over the immense island. The “chef’s dream kitchen” (as per the listing) also features a fancy gas range and oven, two farm-style sinks and a mini wine cooler.
The master bedroom is exceedingly roomy and also boasts access to the backyard via a French door. A couple of modern light fixtures dangle from the ceiling flanking either side of the bed. The luxurious master bath has a pair of similar fixtures hung over the Jack-and-Jill sink. There’s also a large soaking tub as well as a standalone walk-in shower. A cedar-lined closet rounds out the suite.
No swimming pool out back, but there is plenty of space for romping, plus a patio area and deck for enjoying a drink or al fresco meal — with or without company.
