Cooper Koch feels ‘imposter syndrome’ after receiving Golden Globe nomination for ‘Monsters’
On a scale of one to 10, Cooper Koch is a “three million” after receiving a Golden Globes nomination on Monday morning for his leading role on “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” “This is truly one of the best Mondays I have ever had,” he tells Gold Derby. “I heard from Ryan [Murphy] this morning — he sent me a congratulatory text. And I texted Javier [Bardem]. It’s so exciting!”
Koch is really looking forward to seeing Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the stars of “Wicked,” at the January ceremony, plus he wants “to hang out with Mikey Madison” from “Anora.” As for his suit, “I know who I’m wearing already. I have that locked and loaded.” But what about a potential speech? “I’ll have to start this week, I guess. Maybe I’ll just ask [Ryan] for some tips — he’s a great writer. Maybe I just should ask Ian Brennan to write it for me — he wrote me a play.”

The 28-year-old actor feels major “imposter syndrome” when he hears the names of his co-nominees. “It’s pretty crazy. I mean, what a group of people. I feel like, wow!” For the record, he’s competing against Colin Farrell (“The Penguin”), Richard Gadd (“Baby Reindeer”), Kevin Kline (“Disclaimer”), Ewan McGregor (“A Gentleman in Moscow”), and Andrew Scott (“Ripley”) at the 2025 Golden Globes.

Koch sums up his nomination by declaring, “I’m so excited, so grateful, so honored. I can’t even wrap my head around it. Thank you so much.” This marks his first-ever awards bid from any organization.
He is recognized for portraying Erik Menendez in the Netflix limited series, who, along with his brother Lyle Menendez (Nicholas Alexander Chavez), killed his parents after years of alleged abuse. Koch really shines in the fifth episode, “The Hurt Man,” in which he appears on-screen for all 33 minutes in a single take.
“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” received three Golden Globes nominations this year: Best Limited Series/TV Movie, Koch for Best Limited Series/TV Movie Actor, and Bardem for Best TV Supporting Actor. The 82nd annual ceremony will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025.
