Cyndi Lauper Talks Style As 'Project Runway' Appearance Nears
'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' 2.0
Musician and fashion icon Cyndi Lauper will be a guest judge on this week's episode of "Project Runway," and to celebrate, host Karlie Kloss brought everyone in on a lip-sync video honoring Lauper's biggest hit, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun."
The throwback video with a modern twist shows designer Christian Siriano dancing around to the tune. Later, Elle editor-in-chief Nina Garcia, former Teen Vogue editor-in-chief Elaine Welteroth, and designer Brandon Maxwell recreate the phone scene from the video -- albeit with regular, modern cell phones. It's not as much fun as the original video, but at least they were paying homage to a classic.
Lauper the Star Of Both Videos
Lauper joins in as well, adding her own modern fashion updates. The Season 18 contestants get their moment to shine in the video too.
Compare the original video with the "Project Runway" version and see if you can spot the changes, besides the fact that Lauper can dance circles around the rest of the "Project Runway" cast.

The One and Only
In a small preview of the show, Kloss spoke about Lauper's influence, saying, “She was comfortable enough in her own skin to wear outrageous and daring pieces that brought the subculture to the mainstream."
Lauper echoed Kloss' comments, while adding that music helped her find her own identity.
“I worked in a vintage clothing store and I felt comfortable enough in my own skin to create a look that was unique. And the music also empowered me. I actually would add tulling onto things because I always felt I’m too small and when I went on stage I wanted to be bigger. I wanted bigger hair.”
Lauper's hairstyle in the '80s was never that much "bigger," but it certainly had a lot of color and interesting designs, like the half-buzz cut, bright orange hair she wore in scenes from "Time After Time."
For lack of a better word, her style was loud, but that's part of why she was so appealing.
In the clip, Geoffrey Mac tells Lauper how she influenced his life as well.
“You’re the first person to have a really good time in an outfit, as far as I’m concerned. I am a girl that likes to have fun sometimes," he says.
Find Her On 'Project Runway'
The episode that airs tonight has the designers breaking off into two teams and then coming up with mini-collections. "Hollywood Life" adds that Christin Siriano adds an extra wrinkle to the contest.
