Dana Carvey's Church Lady returns to 'SNL' with David Spade as Hunter Biden
Isn't this special? Dana Carvey's Church Lady is back!
In the latest "Saturday Night Live" cold open, the comedian returned as his classic character, who discussed recent pop-culture developments before interviewing Matt Gaetz and Hunter Biden.
The Church Lady declared 2024 the most "satanic year in history" because "instead of mother Mary, little girls are looking up to the Hawk Tuah girl," the "Wicked" movie is about "lions, tigers and sluts," and 11-year-olds are "dressing up like that vixen Sabrina Carpenter."
"You know who's the best carpenter? Jesus," she said, tweaking the lyrics to Carpenter's "Espresso" by singing, "He's working late 'cause he's a savior!"

The Church Lady then brought out Sarah Sherman as Gaetz, who withdrew from consideration to be President-elect Donald Trump's attorney general. Noting "we never got to see" a report from Congress into sexual misconduct allegations against Gaetz, the Church Lady asked, "Isn't that convenient?"
Her second guest was Hunter Biden, played by former "SNL" cast member David Spade in a surprise return. Spade's Biden, who was recently pardoned by his dad, argued it's a "good thing for the father to forgive the son."

"Last time I checked, Jesus wasn't walking around in a robe with no underwear hanging out with prostitutes," the Church Lady said.
"I think he was," Spade's Biden replied.
Biden also complained that Republicans "went after me because of my last name, and all the illegal things I did" ? prompting the Church Lady to break out her catchphrase, "Well, isn't that special?"
The two comedians also tossed in a subtle reference to the podcast they host together, "Fly on the Wall," when the Church Lady told Biden, "At least you haven't been doing a podcast."
Elon Musk slams Dana Carvey impression: He says 'SNL' is 'so mad' Trump won
The Church Lady's final guest was free agent Juan Soto, played by Marcello Hernández. After she suggested the baseball star help the needy, he said he might do so by signing with the Mets.
Carvey returned to "SNL" in September to play President Joe Biden through the election. But he stuck around after Election Day, debuting an impression of Tesla CEO Elon Musk last month. Musk slammed the impersonation, writing on X that "they are so mad" Trump won the election. Carvey also played Al Pacino in a sketch last month.
Paul Mescal stars in a musical version of 'Gladiator II' in 'SNL' sketch
The double feature of "Wicked" and "Gladiator II" was dubbed "Glicked," but what if the two films were combined into one?
An "SNL" sketch starring host Paul Mescal brought that idea to life with a trailer for a musical version of "Gladiator II." The sketch was based on the premise that reshoots were hastily conducted to turn the Ridley Scott film into a musical because of the success of "Wicked" and "Moana 2."
The cast, including Kenan Thompson as Denzel Washington's Macrinus character, sang about how there's "no place like Rome," and Mescal busted out a showstopping number while fighting in the Colosseum. The sketch ended with Mescal flying away on a broom in a parody of "Defying Gravity" from "Wicked."
In his monologue, Mescal noted he isn't exactly known for comedy and played a montage of himself hysterically crying in various dramatic projects.
"SNL" will return next week with host Chris Rock and musical guest Gracie Abrams.
