‘Dance Moms’ Kalani Hilliker Sends an Unmistakable Message About Abby Lee Miller With Taylor Swift Song
Kalani Hilliker from 'Dance Moms'
Kalani Hilliker has joined the trend of people commenting on the difficult times of their past through references to one of the songs included on Taylor Swift’s new album The Tortured Poets Department.
A new TikTok video that the Dance Moms alum shared earlier this week included an unmistakable message for Abby Lee Miller, the dance teacher behind the hit Lifetime reality TV series.
Hilliker’s TikTok featured three photos paired with a specific lyric from Swift’s new song “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” The lyric, “You wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me,” has become a popular meme in the days since the pop star released her 11th studio album on April 19.

Hilliker, 23, posed in a flowing white skirt and matching off-the-shoulder crop top in the first image included in her TikTok. The next two snapshots were taken at Miller’s studio. The first showed a look inside the Abby Lee Dance Company, and the second showed the outside of the dance instructor’s Los Angeles studio in a photo taken across the street.
“Had to,” Hilliker wrote simply in her TikTok caption.
Several of Hilliker’s TikTok followers suggested they “knew this when we watched,” while others declared that the actress and dancer “wins this trend.”
Hilliker was part of Dance Moms’ main cast from 2014 to 2017. She previously entered Miller’s world of dance when she appeared in Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition in 2013, when she was 13 years old.
One of Hilliker’s Dance Moms co-stars, Sarah Hunt, also tapped into the “asylum” trend with her own TikTok. In her post, Hunt paired a recent photo of herself with the same inside view of Miller’s studio that Hilliker had used in her post. Hunt’s TikTok was paired with the same clip from Swift’s new song.
Unlike Hilliker, Hunt clarified the meaning behind her post in her TikTok caption, writing, “i swear this is a joke it wasn’t that bad i promise ?? but in all seriousness wouldn’t be where i am today without this place. ??”
