Dancing With the Stars Finale Recap: Did the Right Dancer Win Season 33?
The Mirrorball trophy has been sufficiently polished and buffed, and it’s now time to hand it to one of Dancing With the Stars‘ last five couples standing.
Yep, after nine weeks of fancy footwork, killer costumes and more “Thanks, Julianne!”s from co-host Alfonso Ribeiro than we could count, Dancing reached the conclusion of Season 33 on Tuesday night, which found the five finalists — Danny Amendola, Joey Graziadei, Chandler Kinney, Ilona Maher and Stephen Nedoroscik — each making one last case for why they should receive that glittery trophy.

Across the three-hour (!) broadcast, each couple performed a redemption dance, where they got to re-attempt a style they’d struggled with earlier this season, followed by everyone’s favorite routine: the freestyles! There are no restrictions on the freestyle choreography, which often makes them the strongest performances of the season. Here’s how those final dances and scores shook out:
Danny Amendola and Witney Carson
Redemption Tango: 27 out of 30
Freestyle: 29 out of 30
Total (from semifinals and finals): 110 out of 120
Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson
Redemption Cha-Cha: 30 out of 30
Freestyle: 29 out of 30
Total (from semifinals and finals): 117 out of 120
Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong
Redemption Jive: 30 out of 30
Freestyle: 30 out of 30
Total (from semifinals and finals): 118 out of 120
Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten
Redemption Jive: 27 out of 30
Freestyle: 30 out of 30 (their first perfect score of the season!)
Total (from semifinals and finals): 114 out of 120
Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold
Redemption Quickstep: 29 out of 30
Freestyle: 30 out of 30 (their first perfect score of the season — and hey, Stephen’s gymnastics teammates held their own out there! Get ’em on Season 34!)
Total (from semifinals and finals): 112 out of 120
Elsewhere in the finale, reigning Dancing champion Xochitl Gomez returned for a lovely routine with Val Chmerkovskiy, and many of this season’s previous contestants came back for short duets with their partners, which served as a nice recap of how those contestants actually fared on the show: Anna Delvey was there, and nothing more; Reginald VelJohnson did so much while doing so little; and Brooks Nader and Gleb Savchenko once again had us questioning what the heck is going on with those two.
Then, at last, it was time for the results. Your Season 33 champions are… Joey and Jenna! Second place went to Ilona and Alan; third place to Chandler and Brandon; fourth place to Stephen and Rylee; and fifth place to Danny and Witney.
