“DWTS” is an amateur dance competition that brings together celebrities from the worlds of film, TV, music, theater, social media, sports and more. Those celebs are paired with professional dancers. Every week the pros train their partners in a new dance style, which they then perform live for a panel of judges including Carrie Ann Inaba, six-time Mirror Ball champion Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli.
The judges score the dancers on a scale of one to 10. But the judges’ scores only account for half of the show’s results. Viewers at home can also vote in real time to decide who stays and who goes. Whoever wins the competition at the end of the season goes home with the Len Goodman Mirror Ball Trophy, named in honor of the former “DWTS” judge who passed away in 2023.
This season is hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, who are both Mirror Ball champs in their own right. Ribeiro prevailed as a celebrity contestant alongside pro Witney Carson in season 19. Hough won twice as a professional dancer, with speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno in season four and race car driver Helio Castroneves in season five.
