No one does rom-coms quite like Danica McKellar. The Wonder Years alum starred in 16 Hallmark movies before she made the move over to Great American Family in 2021, where she’s still churning out feel-good holiday and romance films. Who is Danica McKellar’s husband?
Danica McKellar is married to Scott Sveslosky, a partner at Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton. According to his bio, the lawyer works in the Business Trial Practice Group and specializes in insurance-related litigation.
It was a second shot at love for McKellar and Sveslosky, as both of them had been married once before and have sons from their respective relationships. McKellar was previously married to composer Mike Verta, whom she welcomed her son Draco with, while Sveslosky has a son named Hunter from his first marriage.

McKellar was introduced to Sveslosky by the parents of one of her son’s classmates, and the pair had their first date on Oct. 16, 2014. “I sat down across from him for coffee and started giggling and couldn’t stop. I didn’t know what to say. I couldn’t believe this is who I was sitting across [from],” McKellar recalled during an interview with Country Living. “We’d been talking on the phone for a little bit and my favorite book is The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra, and he’d brought it with him and underlined his favorite parts. I just already loved him and was smitten from the moment I sat down.”
After one year of dating, McKellar and Sveslosky tied the knot on Nov. 15, 2014, in Hawaii. Both of their sons were involved in the intimate ceremony.
The blended family now reside in rural Tennessee, having moving there from Los Angeles in 2022. “I am just loving the fact that my Christmas movie characters have rubbed off on me … I think it’s just a wonderful example of life imitating art,” the actress told PEOPLE of the move. “My husband and I have been wanting more nature for a long time … We were kind of ready to not be in a city anymore.”

In addition to being partners in life, McKellar and Sveslosky have also collaborated professionally. In 2017, Sveslosky helped write the script for McKellar’s Hallmark hit Campfire Kiss. More recently, he penned the 2023 holiday film Swing into Romance for Great American Family.
While speaking to PEOPLE about the latter, McKellar clarified that her husband is “not a writer,” but noted: “He just is good at putting together ideas when I really want to do something. And it’s just fun to have that knowledge that he’s a part of this.”
“Back in 2017, I told my husband that I wanted to play a math teacher in a movie, and he wrote the story for a movie that ended up being called Campfire Kiss, and I did that for Hallmark,” the Dancing With the Stars alum continued. “More recently, I said, ‘I really want to dance in a movie,’ and he wrote this story.”
In October 2023, the couple celebrated the 10th anniversary of their first date. McKellar marked the occasion with a touching tribute to Sveslosky on Instagram. “Exactly 10 years ago, Scott and I met and ever since, I’ve felt like the luckiest woman on the planet!! ?? October 16, 2013, we met for coffee, which turned into lunch, which turned into frozen yogurt, which turned into a lifetime together! ??????,” she wrote alongside a selfie of her and Sveslosky. “Thank you Scott, for being the best husband and partner I ever could have dreamed off.”
McKellar was a Hallmark mainstay for over six years and she starred in some of the network’s biggest hits, including Wedding Bells, Coming Home for Christmas, Christmas at Grand Valley and Christmas at Dollywood. In October 2021, she signed a four-picture deal to act in and produce original films for Hallmark’s competitor, Great American Family (formerly known as GAC Family). Since then, she’s appeared in a handful of GAF movies, including The Winter Palace, Christmas at the Drive-In and A Royal Date for Christmas.
