‘Daredevil’ Returning for Second Season with New Showrunners

“Marvel’s Daredevil” has been renewed for a second season at Netflix with Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez serving as showrunners as Steven DeKnight exits, Variety has learned.

The superhero drama is the first in a series of Marvel comicbook adaptations to receive the television treatment via Netflix, with “A.K.A. Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage” and “Iron Fist” set to roll out over the next few years, before the characters team up in a crossover miniseries event called “The Defenders.”

“Daredevil” stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock — a blind super hero by night and a super lawyer by day. Rosario Dawson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Scott Glenn, Bob Gunton, Toby Leonard Moore, Vondie Curtis Hall and Ayelet Zurer also starred in season one.

The show has seen favorable reviews, with Variety’s Brian Lowry calling it “dark, brooding and violent” and also “slickly produced.” The Netflix series was beset by online piracy after its debut, with over 2 million users illegally downloading it within a week of its premiere.

“Daredevil” hails from Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix. Ramirez and Petrie will also exec produce alongside Drew Goddard, who wrote the pilot but vacated his role of showrunner in 2014, and Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb.
