David Byrne Says ‘Remember These Faces, Remember Their Names’ in GOP Health Care Bill Protest
David Byrne wants you to remember their faces and names. On Tuesday (June 13) the Talking Heads leader and solo star posted a grid featuring headshots of the members of Congress who’ve voted for Pres. Trump’s health care bill and tax cut measure, urging those opposed to the two efforts to contact their senators before the president’s two signature campaign promises go to the Senate for a vote.
“If passed, 24 million Americans are estimated to lose health coverage. Much of the money saved will be given to the richest 2% in the form of tax cuts that will benefit them,” Byrne wrote. “These ‘representatives’ are hoping you aren’t noticing as they play along and vote for Trump’s cruel and callous law. Let there be consequences.”

Byrne’s note accompanies the photos of 217 members of Congress, along with a link to whoismyrepresentative.com for those who want to contact their reps. Trump’s two biggest campaign promises have been stymied by the ongoing distraction of the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Senate Republicans have been working to finish their draft of the bill aiming to repeal and replace Obamacare in secret, with no plans to release it publicly before they wrap work, possibly before the July 4th recess.
Byrne has also been an outspoken critic of Trump’s proposal to eliminate funding for publicly supported arts organizations, including the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities and Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
