“I was thrilled to be invited to return,” Sweeney told TV Insider, which first broke the news. “I love playing Sami and I am always happy for the chance to come back. We always have to figure out scheduling and such, but if at all possible, I’m so glad to make it happen.”
Besides her return to work on the soap that made her a household name, Sweeney is also working on another movie for Hallmark. “I can’t wait to share with everyone the concept,” she told TV Insider. “But that will be later this year. I’m really proud of this movie.”
Sweeney left Days in 2014 after starring in the show since 1993. During her time on the drama the actress was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category in 2015 and won the Special Fan Emmy Award for America’s Favorite Villain in 2002. She returned to the show in 2017 and has appeared on and off since in various storylines.
Sweeney is represented by Vault Entertainment.
Sweeney first arrived at DOOL in 1993 to play Sami, the daughter of Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall). She enjoyed a 21-year run before leaving to focus on other projects, including her numerous Hallmark series. The actress has made multiple visits to the soap since her exit 10 years ago and was happy this one lined up with her current filming schedule.
