Heading into this year’s strikes-delayed Daytime Emmys ceremony, ABC’s General Hospital led the soap opera pack with 19 total nomination. On Friday night, the long-running sudser converted on a half-dozen of those, including wins for Best Drama and in both supporting actor categories.
GH boss Frank Valentini dedicated their Best Drama win to the late Sonya Eddy, who earlier in the night won a posthumous Daytime Emmy for her role as head nurse Epiphany Johnson.
CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful meanwhile claimed two big wins, in the lead actor categories.
Other highlights from this year’s Daytime Emmys included Young and the Restless alum/S.W.A.T. star Shemar “The Streak Is Over!” Moore presenting All My Children icon Susan Lucci with the Lifetime Achievement Honor. Lucci gave a lovely and ultimately very emotional speech, with former TV daughter Eden Riegel on hand and her real-life son Andreas Huber also in attendance.
Among non-soaps programming, The Kelly Clarkson Show swept the two major talk show categories.
The Creative Arts ceremony were held on Saturday afternoon, where dozens more Daytime Emmys were also awarded honoring The People’s Court, Italy Made With Love and more.
